A CD or an MP3 player, a little free time and an ambient, calming relaxation recording, all recorded by Neo, who used it herself to stop hair pulling (and six years later is still pull free!!!) You too can be.

This recording does require some of your precious time. Our research has shown results are optimized by those who play the recording once a day, daily for 30 consecutive days. It can still work if you fall asleep as it plays, so relax and let it work for you.

Social anxiety is often very distressing, please treat it sympathetically

There have been many research projects into medication for trichotillomania, with limited results. Often mistakes are made where people are given medication for OCD. OCD compulsions are often the result of compulsive thoughts, such as "I must do this to prevent that"; by contrast, hair pulling is not preceded by such thoughts or cognitive problems. Trichotillomania symptoms most often begin in early adolescence (9 - 13), while OCD usually begins in late teens (Himle et al., 1995). Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and exposure treatments are effective for OCD, but have not been shown to prevent pulling.

Certain reported similarities have been found between motor tic urges and hair pulling urges (Prado et al., 2008). Van Ameringen et al., 2006 tested the antipsychotic Olanzapine (10.8 mg/daily), on people with trichotillomania. This medication has been effective for treating motor tics. Of the trichsters,85% of those given olanzapine pulled less than before, as compared to 17% of those taking the placebo. There may therefore be a positive outcome with the well supervised use of Olanzapine in treating trichotillomania, especially if used alongside behavioral modification therapy.

MEDICATION INFORMATION
These are the responses of many different people to the question "Have you been prescribed medication for trichotillomania and was it successful?"

I have tried Prozac, Paxil, Valium, Trazadone, Serzone, Celexa, Effexor, and Zoloft; none of which were successful. I only noticed the bad side effects from a few of them.

Prozac, helped as a social tool to deal with anxiety I felt from pulling but not the pulling; Anafranil: did not relieve urges; Effexor: not reccommended.

prozac-most useful still pulled a lot but felt better zoloft-somewhat xanax/other benzodiazepines-very useful

Antidepressants (six months in 1999) Antidepressants (six month in 2000) I am back here so no help.

many, none help!

I have had lots of medication … everytime I go back to the doctor they give me something different. Medication makes me brain dead and as I trance pull, it makes me pull more..

seroxat complete control for a month then it crept back.tried a more modern version made the trichotillomania 10 times worse, now on haloperidol and they have been no help except make me sleepy

Clomipramine..dixarit...prozac...seroxat..all useless

Mirtazepam, prozac, celexa, effexor .. all a waste of time and effort like the doctors who prescribe them.

Prozac - No not successful, made the pulling worse and side effects were worse than trichotillomania

Seroxat, Mirtazipan put me off sex and increased my pulling and made me leave my husband who I miss to the ends of the earth.

Sleeping tablets, SSRIs and a stay in a mental hospital – all for trichotillomania and all useless like me.

Paxil: It just made me -spaced-out- so I stopped taking it. I prefer the cognitive behavioral therapy route.

Serpxat and I was not suicidal before I took them but tried to kill myself.

Selexa made all my self harming worse

First doctor (age 8) prescribed some type of sedative and chewing gum, unknown what the med was though. Two years ago I was prescribed Welbutrin (Zyban) an antidepressant for the hair and Adderal a stimulant for the ADHD (boy was that a big mistake, that stuff made me pull worse than ever before) I have not taken the stimulant for nearly a year and I am still pull at the rate that started day I started taking the stimulant.

prozac, amitriptiline, dothiopin, stelazine - None of which have help or eased the pulling.

I take Cipramil for depression. No effect on hair pulling.

paxil, zoloft, luvox, anafranil, risperidone - Everything tried, nothing worked

Well, I once tried something that was supposed to help me relax, but I didn't follow through enough with it to see if it worked.

Was on zoloft for years, don't think i helped my trichotillomania, but did help panic attacks Now am on celexa, and did go 80 plus days when I firs started it.

Zoloft- did not help Paxil - Did not hel Prozac - Did not help

I took Prozac for three months. 80mgs per day. I did stop pulling but I felt horrid!

Seroxat - did not help

Prozac. If killing my sex life and career is help, then it helped. If the aim was to stop eyelash pulling then it failed beyond anything.

I have had Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Anafranil, Effexor, and Xanax. Xanax really helped me, but that doesn't mean it will help anyone else. I believe it depends on the make of the individual's brain. I, sadly, had to quit using my miracle drug due to my onset of severe panick attacks. They occured up to 8 times a day. I was useless. The Xanax worked, but was too much for my body. If I was to miss a dose, I could have died from a seixure,or a stroke. Well, everyone also knows Xanax is proven to make you stupid, right? Nope, I sure didn't. I failed my first semester of college. Yep, me a straight a student. To say the least Xanax was only a nice dream. So, currently I am on Effexor. With this medicine my hair pulling returned.

Fluoxetine - unsuccessful Lustral - unsuccessful:

Given up going to doctors they only prescribe drugs that make you iller than trichotillomania makes you and believe me trich makes me SICK.

I was prescribed Lustral OCD tablets and cognitive behaviour therapy, I found that neither worked.

Paxil, Prozac, Tradazone, Zoloft, many, many more I can't remember the names of. Many depression and anxiety medications. None of which were successful to any extent.

I have been On Anfranil (at 18 for about 6 months) and that turned me into a zombie. I have taken Zoloft at high does as well, which doesnt seem to help the pulling but doesnt help me to cope wiht every day stress in a more productive manner.

Prozac. Unhelpful

Prozac & Sulpiride. Some help from the Prozac. Sulpiride useless and has made me gain a lot of weight

Told my psychiatrist that I was suffering from depression AND also pulled my hair sometimes which bothered me. She prescribed me Effexor which masks my depression symptoms satisfactorily, however I find that it makes me more prone to pull my hair because it someties makes me feel anxious. WOULD not recommend for someone trying to quit pulling!

Prozac - I took it for 2-3 weeks but felt I wanted to deal with it without relying on medication

Went to the doc and was given a form of anti depressent. But i’m a happy person. Pulling stopped for a short period, but it made me feel weird and not my self. so i stopped the treatment

Paroxetine but it didn’t help

Anafranil, Luvox, Neurontin, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Klonipin - that helps, but is addictive

Anafril. This helped a lot but I think the only reason this helped was because the side effects were so bad that I was unable to function. Nausea, the shakes, dry mouth and drowsiness so bad that I could fall asleep anywhere any time.

Seroxat for Depression/Panic Attacks Helped to lessen the urge to pull slightly but did not stop it alltogether.

Prozac didn’t work

clomiprmine has been the best. it works though i feel so sleepy when it is at the correct dosage. have also tried prozac, zoloft, and librium all to no avail.

Anafranil no good

not for trich, just SSRI’s for depression, which they though might help with the trichotillomania but didn’t.

prozac, luvox, paxil - somewhat successful Aanafranil -- not successul Arisperdal -- very, very successful

I was perscribed Seroxat (anti-depressant), it didn't help at all.

Taken Prozac, Wellbutrin, Paxil & Effexor for depression. None have eleviated my trichotillomania

I have a theory … Zoloft creates zombies who pull out their hair out of … erm, happy hair pullers.

prozac....not successful.:

Prozac and Zoloft didn't seem to help

self medicated, ditracting dangerous, stupid and helped! also now tried paxil- anxiety better, hair...no help, worse. Trying efexor, no help.still looking:

I have been on so many without any help and with lots of bad, BAD side effects

anafranil - unhelpfu prozac - unhelpful

was on seroxat for panic attacks and saw no improvement in hair pulling or eyelash pulling

No. I have tried the following non-prescription drugs (? correct word? St John's Wort (Boots own-brand, 1-a-day). Helped initially (lasted about 4 days) then stopped workin Kava Kava (from Holland and Barrett health food shop) - absolutely no help whatsove Natracalm - this helps me tremendously. Available from Boots, Tescos, Holland & Barrett etc. (Passionflower tablets). I started taking them after reading that they were good for asthma (which I also have, diagnosed aged 16 after my parents bought me a cat and I was allergic to him) and my hair-pulling has decreased significantly (so has the amount of asthma medication that I need!)

Yes, Prozac - reasonably successful, does calm me and gives me cause to wake up in the mornings

Was prescribed venlafaxine for reactive depression/breakdown. Didn’t realise it would help but noticed a slight improvement. Did not want to continue on anti-depressants though.

when I was first diagnosed with trich. at the age of eleven. I was prescribed some medication but I don't remember what it was called. Many doctors said that I did it for attention, that would make me so angry and than I would refuse to go see that doctor again. Out of all the doctor's I have seen I only like one, but than I moved. Since than I have only been to one other doctor and I didn't like them.

I have taken Prozac on & off. I am just beginning to wonder if there is a relationship

Prozac - not successful Clomipramine - not successful:

Zoloft....to no avail

Prozac--seemed to help a little at first but not much

Paxil- I couldn't put up with side effects of constant sweating so I never really gave it a chance. I am 34 and now my 7 year old daughter is pulling significantly more than I ever did. She is on Zoloft and it does not seem to be helping. We are increasing the dosage.:

Prozac and Paxel they did not do a thing for me.I found it through my psychiatrist.

Luvox, but it did not work

Zoloft. It has helped me cope with life and for the most part keeps me happy. I haven't noticed any changes in my trichotillomania because of the medication.

prozac yes its very helpful its stoped me pulling alot more then i did

I have tried several antidepressants, none have been successful for me.:

Zoloft 100 mg. Daily. No help.

yes, Paxil, took it for 5 days, suffered several panic attacks and stopped on my own discretion. Having a bad doctor at the time also didn't help.

prozac-the 1st time around it worked, 2nd time around, not working. anafranil-same as above: Prozac used to help, but the medication stopped. I just began taking Luvox, but it hasn't taken affect yet.

Seroxat hopeless hopellss

Anafranil-good at first-then effect stopped combined with Prozac strong suicidal thoughts.

SEROXAT NOT USEFUL AT ALL

No change to hair pulling - but currently taking paroxetine fir depression

Luvox- no change, Prozac= no change

No meds help for hair pulling - ALTHOUGH I FIND THAT ANTI DEPRESSANTS EASE THE ANXIETY WHICH CAUSES M TO PULL

luvox, paxil, anafranill, etc. NO HELP!!!!!:

zoloft. not helpful

Prozac made me pull more and function less

Tryptilline - useless, Prozac - useless, Luvox - OK, Efexor - good initially, but after two and 1/2 years the effects appear to be waning.

Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa at various times. No help with the trichotillomania at all and no help with life.

Not yet...I just told my therapist about my problem, and they might put me on some sort of anxiety meds, such as klonopin, because I usually pull out my hair when I'm stressed out by homework.

anafranil - didn't help, prozac-not sure, welbutrin- didn't help, ativan didn't help, serzone – somewhat not sure what

Zoloft, which helps with the depression, but no longer does much for the trich

Zoloft - Marginal Lithium - not at all! clomipramine - no:

NO, BUT ON PAXIL FOR DEPRESSION/ANXIETY. Has not helped with the pulling.

N/A But I did pay for hypnotherapy which was extremely successful. However I couldn't afford the fees (£30 ph 8 years ago!):

i've tried ciprimil, effexor, and am now on zoloft which really helps me to control my anxiety and the anger that is inside of me - that i assume is created from my lack of selfesteem and pride - and the pain of this monster:

Zoloft: it helped somewhat, Celexa:it helped a lot but I had some side effects so I had to stop using it, Remeron: It did not work at all, And Prozac: I'm on prozac right now, and it works very well.:

Betnovate: no

prozac, can't remember the other medications. everything made me so tired. I couldn't function.:

:I was given Alprazolam as anti-anxiety medication--only took when really stressed out and it helped some, but not really:

Antidepressants did not help

prozac, not effective:

I take medication for depression, sertraline-lustril. Havent told my GP about it yet.:

anafranil. Didn't help.

Lithium--not helpful:

PROZAC - GREAT FOR DEPRESSION BUT NOT FOR PULLING:

Paxil. Didn't help.

Paxil, Wellbutron, and birth control, None effective against trichotillomania.

nuzac. But it does not help

luvox.. didnt help but put weight on me... prozac didnt help... lost tons of weight:

no, the dermatologist suggested I wear gloves to bed and try different soap and that was it, this was back in the middle 80's so nothing changed

Effexor. I don't think it did much though.:

ANAFRINIL, NO CHANGE CLOMIPRIMINE, NO CHANGE:

Zoloft, yes it helps but I still pull.

Liquid prozac. successful but at the time very expensive $100. and was not covered by my insurance

betamethasone 0.1% Scalp Application - Not effective Eumovate Cream - Ok:

Clomipramine. Useless

Am taling Zoloft for depression and anxiety. I have not noticed much impact on trichotillomania.

zoloft, it worked at first and now it doesnt:

I have been prescribed prozac, I found it mildly helpful, but I didn't like the way it changed my mood so much, I felt like I wasn't myself any more.

Lustral - it did not stop me from pulling.

largactil at age 15. No good at all. Made me tired for whole of next morning:

prozac, zoloft Neither successful for hairpulling but zoloft has helped me with depression.:

respiredone. very successful, helped me to break the cycle of pulling hair from my scalp, which was the biggest problem for me, and i haven't pulled since the medication. Was on it for about 5 months. (not very nice side effects, like putting on a bit of weight and complete loss of libido, but it was worth it.)

Zoloft - it made my pulling worse.:

prozac, anafranil, respirdal. No help.

Just a herbal calmer. which worked but can not remember the name:

I told my general practitioner and he prescribed Luvox to help with obsessive-compulsive disorders, but after two months I noticed no change

Celexa and Paxil. Neither were/are helpful. I am still currently taking Paxil

I just found out there was a name for this so no,I haven't even seen a doctor.:

Prozac, Paxall. No success.

zolft no help at all paxil no help at all:

zoloft, prozac, no and no. Also buspar, which helps a bit.:

Anafranil- It wiped me out completely. I couldn't stop sleeping, had to stop pretty quickly.:

ZOLOFT,PROZAC, AND ONE OTHER, BUT I CANT REMEMBER THE NAME. NO NONE OF THESE DRUGS HELPED.

I was initially put on prozac when I was 16. I was put on a low dose and escalated up to the highest dose possible over a period of 3 months. I never had any results with it. Next I was put on Anafranil. I was on that for approximately 3 weeks. I had reduced pulling but was also suffering side effects, such as, sleeplessness and extreme anxiety.

No- and I wouldn't take any.

I have been on Luvox, paxil and effexor XF for depression - these medications have not helped with my trich.

Prozac was not at all effective for me. Anafranil worked for me 12 years ago but no one will prescribe to me now. Selexa helps to keep moods even. Had very little effect on trichotilomania

Zoloft don’t know if it helped don’t remember the entire year I took it for photos show still bald

yes...anafranil...didnt take it long bc it made me sluggish and hungry all the time

i take paxil for other anxiety problems

No, I didn't even know there was a name for it until about 4 years ago when I saw an article in a magazine. Before that I did, and still do, thought I was a freak. I'm not. My family (mum, dad, brother) ignore the fact I do it - like a dirty habit. I've only ever told one friend, about 10 years ago during some drunken female bonding. It's never been mentioned since. I now have a daughter and I'm afraid she will start to do this as she sees me.

my doctor put me on an ssri. i didn't like the way it made me feel, and without therapy i found it ineffective.

Paxil. At first successful but then did not work. Currently take Zoloft, I do believe that Zoloft helps keep away the intense feelings of self-hatred that generally accompany hair pulling, however, not the desire itself – at all.

Anafranil - didn't work, Luvox - didn't work, Prozac - worked for a time, then I didn't care if I pulled or not - so I pulled even more

no but i take effexor for anxiety

Luvox since March. Not helped yet

Effexor. Didn't help.

I am taking Prozac now. I have not pulled as much, but still pulling.

yes ... luvox; successful in treating trich ... although after the first month of treatment it made me incredibly drowsy, sleepy, ... so i took myself off of it

Prozac for OCD and Clonodine for Tourette syndrome

No, i cant even talk to my doctor about it....its that embarrassing for me....i hide it very well.....i am attractive and can get by without people noticing.

ritalin,buspar,celexa,remeron-not successful

ANAFRANIL

Prozac.... I took it and I thought it was great at eliminating anxiety an underlying culprit, but I am not sure it helped the trich so much., but since I tried to change to Effexor due to drowsiness, I Felt like it had even less effect. so It must have worked a bit.

celexa, no

AS I mentioned before...Prozac at the lowest dosage gave me results initially. It was short-lived though.

I'm Bipolar (diagnosed 2001), but had it much longer. Anyway, no meds I've taken have seemed to have any effect: effexor, paxil, wellbutrin, celexa, zyprexa, trileptal, seroquel.

prozac--no not really. I did stop pulling them when I was on it but I just think I was not as stressed out, not b/c I was stressed out.

Anafranil-no; Prozac 20 mg.-no

Prozac. It didn't help at all.

Zoloft - yes, sometimes succesful

tofranil.....it works great, but only when i take it which is at night or else i'll fall asleep during the day

zoloft-didn't work wellbutrin- didn't work

I have been on every antidepressant they make from my trich and I pull more

Betamethasome Dipropionate Ointment, It stops the itching and makes the hair slippery so its harder to pull out.

Yes. Celexa 10 mg. so far, it has not helped subside the urge, but i've only started taking it about 2 weeks ago

effexor, and no way was it effective. all it did was make me gain weight.

antidepressants and anxiety drugs

Zoloft- It made me feel better, however did not stop the hair pulling

Anafranil -- not successful. Xanax -- not successful. Currently trying Zoloft

Do not think you should give the impression that meds can help trich

Seroxat -prescribed for anxiety before I admitted trich, but did not help

yes, paxil, only slowed down the pulling, but didn't last long

PROZAC cr@p

Clomipramine watever it was sposed to do it never

given prozac and topamax, nothing seems to help

Yes - I was presribed an anti-depressant (can't remember name) - no use if anything made it worse because i was getting annoyed that my work rate slowed down which was a side effect of the medication. I took myself off them because i didn't feel myself.

I took Effexor XR for 5 years and it did not change the hair pulling.

Yes. I took paxil for a bit, it helped but there was signifigant weight gain & bad withdrawl when weening off. Now I am trying Welbutrin. I takes the edge off the urges - on average relieves about 40-45% of the urges. No weight gain...actually a little loss. Over all I like this one, it really does seem to help.

At 18, I saw my family doctor, and put me on Paxil. I took it for 6 weeks. It did nothing but give me mood swings which made me pull more

I was prescribed Luvox. It was not successful.

No, I've never confided in anyone, not even my husband. I make a good job of covering up my bald spot, but I can't believe he hasn't noticed. It's just never been discussed.

Effexor... yes it helps alot

prozac: not successful zoloft: helpful with my life in general, but not so much with the hairpulling. In other words, I still get major hairpulling urges being on zoloft.

Yes. Prozak, in Oregon, and it was not successful. Paxil, in Oregon, and it was not successful.

yes, i am on zoloft for anxiety and i heard it helps trich too my head and my fingers didn’t hear it tho

I was given Zoloft, as a anti-depresent.

All kinds Clompromine,Anafranil, prozac etc. It didn't seem to help. I am on Lexapro I just started and it is brand new I am hoping this helps.

I take paxil for depression/panic attacks that began in 1995 when I was 35. I haven't mentioned hair pulling to my doctor

No i did not know there was any medicine that might be effective, i have never talked to a medical professional about this problem.

Prozac, paxil, celexa, and zolft

Anafranil and several anti anxiety and antidepressants. I am currently on both now, dosent seem to help much, you name an antidepressant or anti anxiety med and I have been on it

Anafranil. It worked for a while but I had to keep increasing the dose to reduce my pulling episodes until I was taking 250mg./day and my hands were shaking so badly I couldn't write.

Paxil, zoloft, prozac don’t know who I am anymore but can still pull some!

paxil, don't take it anymore anxiety increased

I was prescribed Prozac, and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, I'm also bipolar, and it made me manic.

I was prescribed to zoloft first and It didn't seem to work, although i was only on it for a month and a half i think. I didn't like it because i was irritable with my boyfriend. Even him touching my skin felt awful and my sex drive was gone. So i went to the doctors to ask if there was something that didn't effect sex drive and they said they didn't think so but that i could try Clomipramine or whatever it is, i can't remember the spelling. Same things except i also had really bad attacks where if i walked up a small hill or ran a short distance i would feel shaky and strange and my breathing went funny. So i would find a bed to rest on or something. I decide that i didn't like the side effects so i stopped. I also was seeing a counsellor, and i think in some ways that it helped although I think i decided that i wasn't getting any answers that i couldn't give myself so i also stopped that.

anti deppressants

no, every counselor I have went too for being bi-polar doesn't have a clue what it is or what to do.

Xzanx it help to cut down on the amount of hair I pulled but did not stop it

yes, it was aterax and aropax i believe Not too sure about the spelling

I have been taking Paxil for about 8 months. It was prescribed for my trich and my anxiety. It helped my anxiety, but not my trich.

No. Never admitted to any doctor that I have this problem. The cost of physchiatric treatment is too prohibitive.

Seroxat when I was 18 - originally for depression but told counsellor about trich and they upped the dose. Didn't seem to help either depression or trich!! Stopped taking it after 1 year.

Yes- I'm not remembering their names-- it was a brand used for Obsessive Compulsives though- it made me utterly lazy and not wanting to do anything bt pull

no - I am against taking medication - always a fear of loss of control turning to dependancy. (do not drink or smoke - have enough addictions to break!)Also, I have recently moved and not told my new family doctor about trich.

Yes, Naphcon-A eyedrops. Didn't help at all. The Ophthalmologist thought it was in my head. I've not spoken to another Dr. about it.

No, I was however prescribed Effexor and Paxil for depression & self-mutilation. I did not pull during time I was on the drugs, but didn't stay on them as I was unhappy with myself.

prozac, Zoloft, and Anafrinl (sp?) yes. it hasnt worked

Paxil...somewhat successful Trazadone...(sleeping aid) somewhat successful, but bad side effects Celexa...(currently on still) YES, successful

Cipramil 20mg, I am not sure if it is working as i am still feeling anxious.

yes. i have taken luvox which helped a little. i am currently on effexor, which seems to be helping.

I've tried paxil, which gave me severe diarhea, and I've tried luvox. Neither have worked for me. After being on both, I found out I was pregnant and had to stop taking the meds.

prozac and it ws not reallt helpful

Zoloft? I didn't consider it sucessful because I didn't like the side effects and the improvements were minimal - not worth it.

Aropax (paroxetine) no i didn't find it effective, if anything it worsened my condition. I did however have a afew sessions of accupuncture and they were extremely effective but soo expensive I coudlnt afford them anymore. I wish i could

Have taken Seroxat for depression. Didn’t affect the hair-pulling in any positive way, although I was not taking the drug long enough to be able to tell

I take zoloft and find it is most helpful in relaxing me.

I have but I'm not sure of the name of the medication. But yes, I found it to be helpful. I do believe though, that support from family was more successful than the medication.

Yes, favourine and it wasn't successful

Zoloft is was helpful at times. Paxil is wasn't at all helpful.

anafranil, prozac, st. john's wort...none really showed much improvement. Anafranil made me VERY SLEEPY!

Zoloft. I sometimes found it helpful.

I am currently on paroxetine (Seroxat) for depression, but recently started taking the higher dose used for obsessive/compulsive disorder after a phase of picking the skin off the soles of my feet in the summer. My depression is improved, but not my eyelash pulling.

Zoloft - sort of.

I took Zoloft my senior year in high school for depression, but that didn't seem to affect my trich much.

prozac 30 mg, effexor not helpful at all. either i am hopeless or prozac is!

Fluoxetine HCl (Prozac), no noticable change

NO,TRIED PROZAC AND WAS UNSUCCESFUL. I AM NOW TRYING PAXIL,THIS IS MY 4TH DAY.

my doctor told me that the condition i has was cosmetic and refused to give me any helkp after the age of eighteen, she still insists that there is nothing wrong with me.

luvox,paxil,trasedone

zoloft... it worked some what but not alot.

My doctor put me on Paxil but I took it for three days and it made me so sick I stopped. Sick to my stomach.

I don't know what it is called but i think they were fish oil vitimins, yes they reduced pulling

no but I do have a hard time concentrating on one thing for a long period of time. For example I haven't been able to hold down a job for longer than 3months.

after i went to the doctors for a second time i was prescribed lustral. it helped me sleep but it never stopped me pulling. the doctor thought i was depressed and treated me accordingly. the doctor didnt know enough about the condition to treat me accordingly

Yes. Respirdal, Zoloft. No, did not help.

Zoloft- no Zanaks- no other i cant think.. nothing seems to help.

fluoxetine and chlomipromine both crap but fluoxetine did help me overcome a nervous breakdown.

Paxil - no it did not help, made me more anxious.

prozac, prozac weekly, paxil, celexa, I didn't stay on any of them very long to really notice a difference. they seemed to make me tired and ill

I went to an opthamologist about it but she never called it trichotillomania...she gave me two kinds of drops for my eyes the first one worked well but it had steroids in it and I was only allowed to use it for one month, and after that I switched to another kind of that didn't work for me...when I tried to go back on the other she said it would not be good to continue long term on those meds...Sorry I can't remember the name of these drops

Many Anti depression drugs which did not help.

EFFEXOR. IT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. PROZAC HAS BEEN MENTIONED TO ME AS BEING BETTER FOR IMPULSE CONTROL BY MY DERMATOLOGIST.

Flovoxamine I am not dead so maybe it worked. Bald eyes but breathing.

Prozac - not at all succesfull

Yes, I can not remember which one because I was on the medication for only a short time. I did not like the side effects.

I was prescibed paxil for my anxiety disorder. I was told that if I stop taking the pill with out slowing down on the medication, it would send electrical shocks through my body. After thinking about that, I quit taking it after about 3 weeks. I decided to find something that was more natural so I went to fred meyers and found a de-stress pill with valerian root, st. johns wart and something else in it. I also found muscle relaxers that had the same contents, but one more thing added.

PROZAC - HELPFUL ENOUGH TO STAY ON IT FOR YEARS. IT HELPS WITH MY MOOD & DEPRESSION. WELLBUTRIN - HELPS W/MOTIVATION TO DO THINGS. GEODON - I JUST STARTED IT SO I'M NOT SURE IF I LIKE IT OR NOT. THE FOLLOWING ONES I DIDN'T LIKE: PAXIL, LUVOX, RISPERODOL, VISTERAL, TRAZODONE, CELEXA, ZYPREXA, SEROQUEL, ANNAFRANIL BUT ANNAFRANIL I TRIED ONLY FOR A WEEK SO I REALLY DIDN'T GIVE IT A TRY. I HAD DRY MOUTH SO BAD.

Tried Prozac - ruined sex life

Paxil and Luvox. Neither were successful. I didn't stay on either of the medicines for very long, though.

I have been on Luvox, paxil, prozac, zoloft, and natural medicines. None of them was sucessful....the most sucessful for me was keeping a journal of when I would pull the most.

Zoloft and Risperdale

no- when i was young my mother took me to the doctor, but there was no medication perscribed. I think it was just looked at as a stage that would pass.

Anafranil (w/ and w/o Buspar) - not successful Prozac - not successful Paxil - not successful Prozac + Wellbutrin - excellent so far...

Luvox-good for anxiety, no results with trichotillomania, Prozac, Zoloft, trazadone,Paxil, not helpful for ttm

I've been prescribed zoloft, but feel like it didn't help much.

anti-depressants, did not work don't remember names

am on anti depressants, have been on anti anxiety and anti psychotics, but for other reasons and they did not help with the pulling - in fact it got worse.

i have used many meicine.none of them were succesful.i have used the brands:aurorix,anafranil,fulsac,buspon,zeprid,zyprexa,seroxat,seroquel,remeron..now i ve just started to take prozac.

yes.....lithium, luvox, anaphrinal, zoloft, paxil, prozac......nothing worked

Zoloft, Paxil, others I can't remember. Sexual side effects were too great, without help for pulling.

Yes I was, it was to lond ago for me to remember the exact details, all I know was they were a form of sleeping tablet. I felt no effect from them so didn't continue further down that line.

Zoloft - For about 1 month - No - it kept me awake at night Paxil - For about 6 months now - No - it makes me feel funny - I am up to 30 mg a day

mainly prozac, other ssris, and a host of other psych meds, antipsychotics etc.

paxil, zoloft and lexapro - only lexapro helped with the anxiety but none helped with the hair pulling

I have been prescribed Celexa for depression, and since then, i have become mentally better as a whole, and I don't pull nearly as much as i used to.

anti depressants not successful

Paxil. It doesnt seem to have helped my trichotillomania

yes, paxil and zoloft, (of course at separate times). No good

Yes. Paxil, 20 m.g. pulling still

Zoloft. no Buspar. no Prozac. no Paxil. calms my nerves but has not really helped me in the hair pulling

no ive never been given medication..when i was younger and i went to help for it some doctors could only suggest me wearing a hat or shaving my head. but i havent been there for help for a long time.

Aropax - successful at first but I began having to take more and more to get the same effect which became too expensive; Epilum - as a mood balancer - seems to have no effect

I was given serotonine, which made me sleepy and sexually frigid, but quite calm. It did not affect my pulling at all.

Yes, Prozac. Not useful

yes. zoloft. didnt help, and my grades went down. i stoped taking it

yes paxil. i stopped taking it cuz i don't like to rely on medication

Anafranil got an immediate stop pulling effect. It was extremely potent, but did not last. I have been on two other anti-depressants, prozac, and currently zoloft. Neither have had a stop-pulling effect.

Fluxotine - anti-depressants. Only just started taking them so I don't know yet.

i take lexapro for trich & depression. doesn't help the trich.

Prozac cannot study but can sure pull out my hair

yes, i dont remember the prescription, but i did not get to take it long b/c is upset my stomach

Serzone---not helping

Yes. Anafranil and Prozac I tell my doc they do not work, they up the dose. If I bought washing liquid which didn’t get the dishes clean I’d throw it away not buy more.

yes, i have tried a few and had very bad side affects i could not deal with. i've tried paxcil CR, celexa, lexapro and 1 other and im sorry i cant remember the name.

klonopin does not help

yes, I'm on 20 Mg of lexapro, and .75 mg of risperdal, and the meds have helped my trich as well as depression

cant remember brand ...but made me feel "drunk" all the time and couldnt function.

Paxil. Not successful

never seen anyone about it just thought it was a bad habit

Zoloft- No Paxil- No

Prozac- Not successful... Zoloft- Not successful... Paxil- Semi successful... and Celexa- Not successful; All in Utah

I have taken Zoloft and Anafranil. I don't find that the Zoloft worked and the Anafranil works ONLY to get rid of my depressed feelings when I feel ugly or anything else.

Luvox SUCKS

Zoloft seizes my brain not my hands

Anaphranil, prozac, ativan.

I've never had the guts to take it to a GP. I went once with my father when it first started and the GP dismissed it as a teenage thing and told us we were being melodramatic

Lexapro for ocd. I've been taking it for a month and have felt no change for my trichotillomania yet.

Prozac-no Anafranil-no Zoloft-yes and no, worked the first time, but went back on it a few months ago and did nothing, Celexa-no, Paxil-helps a little-currently taking it

zoloft-no help

I was once prescribed steroids because I lied and said that my hair was falling out - I thought that if I could get it to grow I would leave it alone - that was when I was about 25. My mother took me to the doctor when I was around 14 - he told her to tie my hands together!!!

citalopram

I was on Luvox, it helped a bit ,but did not cure the problem

Zoloft, No not successful

Paxil,buspar

none that worked.

effxor 350 mg.,zyprexa 5 mgs. i feel my meds make me more sterssed at times when i should be relaxed. and make me over tired at times i need to be awake.

prozac- no it didnt work zoloft- no it didnt work

yes......Paxil. Made Megan very mean. She was on it for a 1 1/2 months.

I've tried Prozac, Luvox (and lots of it) and Wellbutrin all to no effect.

Prozac-No; Anafranil-No; Clomirpramine-couldn't handle side effects. Currently taking Luvox

I am on anti depressants for Dperession, but they haven't had any effect on pulling

It was so long ago, I can't really remember. I know I took wellbutrin, prozac, and many more. I paid alot of money to have all kinds of side effects, none of which were to stop pulling. Some made me tired or blink all the time or non-emotional.

yes i took prozac. no it did not help me at all

no i havent, i would really appriciate some though

Nope, but I would be willing to

celexa - no change zoloft - no change but helps with depression geodon - just got it today, it is suppossed to do wonders!

Cilexa

I have never told anyone that I have trich, but I have been on several anti-depressants. I took Paxil and it made me agressive, mean, and nauseated. I took Zoloft for a while and it helped a little bit. They switched me to Effexor XR, which seems to help my depression the most. It seemed to help my trich until my recent stressful times.

paxil cr 25 mg 1 po bid - just increased dose this week - no noticable results yet

prozac--all i remember is that i lost too much weight, had bad nightmares--still pulled, but don't remember if there was a big difference in pulling.--my gyn prescribed it.

YES THE DOCTER TOLD ME IT WAS HORMONES AND IF I STAY ON MY BIRTH CONTROL PILLS IT WOULD STOP. BUT IT DIDNT. I DONT REMEMBER WHAT THE NAME OF THE BIRTH CONTROL PILLS WERE BUT THEY DIDNT WORK. (THIS WAS 10 YEARS AGO)

I was on Paxil for a year and it did nothing

they said prozac would help, it doesnt

no, for depression. no one here that I know of knows about trich????

The doctor gave Benovate to help hair growth once but she obviously didn't realise what my problem actually was. I've been to 3 different doctors regarding this problem. The first time was a waste of time. The second/third time I got referred to a behaviour councellor

anafranil, luvox, paxil (none helpful)

its was vitman B6 and this other one. but when using them you had to take 2 of them one in the morning and one in the night. when using them for long term to quit pulling they didn't do anything

prozac adavan Not good for the hairpulling

at 17 yrs given anafanil. Horrible experience never been to the doctor again.

I was prescribed Celexa for my anxiety disorder. I am scared to take medications because I had a scary situation with a pill overdose and taking pills reminds me of that. Took the Celexa for a month though, didn't find it extremely helpful.

yes, zoloft and prozac not successful. buspar somewhat helpful

Zoloft , Illinois . Not successful

Paxil, didn't see any change

Luvox buspare ephexor effex r minimal

Prozac - no effect - cost a weeks pay Anafranil - made me drool and affected my eyesight and caused tremor so I couldn't work, read, type etc. Xanax - did not affect urges but did relieve anxiety

Prozac, not yet helpful

too many to list name it and i have tried to no avail

zoloft it was succesful but i didn't like taking the medication because i felt that it was only masking the problem

ANNAFRANIL - not helpful, no growth ( i was 12) rapid body weight increase PROZAC- no help, became suicidal LITHIUM- no help, got more psycotic ZOLOFT- no effect LUVOX- mild improvement for seven years, not working so well now

cipramil anti depresents

All my medicine was helpful to an extent. but after I got use to taking it...it stopped helping until I either had my dosage upped or changed. I have been on anafranil, clompramine, luvox, prozac, paxil, paxil CR and now Lexparo. I am also taking xanax, which I feel helps my insanity.

Paxil (Not helpful), Zoloft (helpful), Prozac (not helpful)

paxil - no zoloft - no wellbutrin - yes

No. I tried St John's Wort off my own back though as I read it could mimic the behavious or Seratonin Re-uptake Inhibitors, but didn't really notice a difference and wanted to go on the Pill which SJW interferes with so came off it after a month.

prozac, not successful

I was prescribed something when I was about 16/17yrsby somone my GP referred me to. He told me these pills will take the urge away. Iwent back every week, he was increasing the dose every time I went because they weren't helping and I thought they were making me depressed. By about 3 months I went back to GP feeling V.depressed and I had stopped taking them 2/3 days b4. She told me the symptoms I was describing were withdrawls because I was on such a high dose she suggested that I go back on them ,wean my self off them and then stop as they obviously weren't working because they were actually anti-depressants! Outraged by her response I stormed out the room and out of GPs for many years, until I became pregnant and had to.

was given a topical steroid lotion for hair loss

Seroxat. I didn't think it helped at all.

wellbutrin- it helped a little zyprexa- it stopped it almost completley, but it makes you gain a ton of weight. I gained 80 pounds in 3 months

Fluoxitine?? Prozac I did not find them successful at all

Anafranil-- helped the first time I took it (for several months), but had no significant effects 8 years later. Luvox-- made me passively suicidal within 3 weeks (I have never been suicidal before or since). Prozac-- made me sleepy 16 hours a day, with no significant effects on my hair pulling.

being to specialist, but it was a con.

yes, celexa...it's what i'm on now and if really works...I don't have the urge to pull my hair out ever since i've been on it...but you also have to say to yourself that you can't do that.

i have never had any help with this problem, let alone know what it was casued. I thought i was the only one with it.

Zoloft-too many side affects ,

prozac, It mostly hepls with my aniexty

Paxil, supposedly for OCD behaviors, has not helped.

prozak, luvok none worked for me

no, not for trichotillomania... Dr. prescribed Paxil for depression about 8 years ago, but it gave me terrible headaches, so it was stopped immediately and I began taking Wellbutrin and shortly thereafter Ritalin SR as well, both of which I still take and help tremendously to counteract depression... but don't help at all with the trich. I'm not willing to take a drug that may subdue my libido... as my husband and I have a great sex life, and that's been a salvation helping us to stay sane and to be able to deal with all of the chronic stress we've had since our first son was born 11 years ago.

celexa and paxil i never stuck with them long enough to know if it works

zoloft 100mg and at first yes but now no

I've taken just about every depression, obsessive-compulsive or attention deficit medicine out there and nothing has made me permanently pull-free.

Yes, breifly before I got married. Some steroid cream to prevent my skin from getting too dry around my eyes.

i was prescribed prozac for depressino and trich but i only took it a month then flaked out ..... it didnt have enought time to effect me

I have tried to get meds for it, but the DR.s always siad they thought I was depressed and they tried to treat that. Prozac, zoloft, etc

prozac NO defintly NO

no i've refused to go doctors

Prozac 40 mg a day. It reduced my anxiety but didn't stop pulling altogether. No longer on meds? 23/08/03

Yes i was prescribed Seroxat (unsure of name)It didn't seem to have any success.

No - I have never discussed this with anyone. Until yesterday when I found this website I didn't even know it had a name.

Ive used prozac which was unsuccessful and am currently coming off paxil which has made my condition alot worse.

No. I just recently found out my problem had a name.

I'm prescribed xanax at night so that I fall completely asleep quickly and don't linger in the "middle stages" of wakefulness and sleep.

Xanax, could not function on the medication

I take Paxil for anxiety and depression. I have also taken Serzone. No doctors know about my trich.

Zoloft (150 mg) - it helps me some what. I think I need a stronger perscription, but I haven't brought this up with my doctor. Depakote (50 or 100 mg) - this seems to help a little, but not very much by itself, although in reaction with the Zoloft, it helps more.

No

paxil- helped a little with feelings of anxiety and with the pulling a bit.

yes, prozac. I can't say that it didn't help because I discontined the medication shortly after taking it.

I have been prescribed several medications for several years but have never actually took any of them because I know that all I need to do to stop is to stop taking meth.

I have been on Anafranil, Prozac, Paxil, Effexor and currently take Celexa, which ONLY alleviates depression, not pulling or the urge to pull.

Prozac and Buspar- Yes sometimes it does if my prescription is at a good doseage.

No

no. my gp just told me to come back, i saw a psychiatrist concerning a legal matter and wen i mentioned it he told me to seek advice if it got worse

yes, prozac. I stopped taking it a few weeks before I stopped pulling for good. It kind of helped me.

I have had heaps of things, cortisone injections into my scalp, cream, but now have a lotion called elocon, which does help stimulate hair growth. This was prescribed with the doctor knowing that I suffer from Trichotillomania.

just realized there was a name for this and i havn't seen a doctor

Zyprexa worked good, but I was too sleepy Zoloft worked good, but I had Diarreah with an increased dose. Luvox made me sick. Currently on Paxil with no results.

Not specifically, butprozac for depression related to side effects.

I WAS PRESCRIBE A MEDICATED SHAMPOO WITH SULFER, IT ONLY WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS

Paxil.. It seemed to help a little for the first month. Now I seem to be at my worst. Iam still taking Paxil because I have not gone to the doctor to get something else and when I try to stop tAking it I feel strange )dizzy and not all there)

Yes - Paxil. Haven't found it sucessful yet and have been taking it for 3 months.

no meds. I've never told my doctors. I was too embarrassed.

I have been on ritilian for 9-10 years and zoloft for 2. so far not so good. but my docotr is unwilling to change

imipramine/prozac/ no help

prozac, paxil,zoloft- nothing helped

Yes, Paxil. It was not successful

no.but i really dont think i would perfer medication as most meds make you feel like a zombie and i dont think thats a good solution to any problem ( if people feel too tired on meds they sleep alot or are lathagic and that would obviously "take care of anyones problem"

Zoloft. Paxil. Paxil didn't, Zoloft helped with depression.

As a child, I was given several SSRI's with no positive results at all. I stopped pulling med-free. I have taken St. John's Wort, Kava Kava, Celexa, and Luvox for depression and OCD as an adult, but not specifically for trich. I think in that the meds relax me altogether, they have a positive effect on the severity of my pulling, but will not stop it. I feel that has to come from within.

I was prescribed Lexapro but it worsened my condition. Now, I am taking Prozac. I hope it works.

Prozac-not successful Serlain- not successful

yes, im on and have beeen on a lot of meds. the only one that helped a tiny bit is xanax. it relaxes me and helps to zone out on the tv pulling

No, because I have never seen a doctor about the disorder.

prozac temporarily but reached a plateau after a couple of months and resumed

Anafranil, Zoloft, Paxil. Zoloft and Paxil were totally unsuccessful and Anafranil worked for about a week but I gained a lot of weight from it.

Anafranil, prozac, celexa, effexor. No, I wouldn't say these have been helpful.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A DR FOR THIS BECAUSE I WAS TOO EMBARASSED OF MY PROBLEM,I THOUGHT THE DR WOULDNT UNDERSTAND BUT NOW THAT I KNOW THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE LIKE ME I THINK I CAN NOW FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE TALKING TO A PROFESSIONAL

yes, prozac... was not successful

I have never been perscribed any medication specifically for thrich. I have never told any of my doctors about my condition.

No, Actually today I found out that its a disorder otherwise I was just tired of doing it and I didnt even know that its a mental disorder.

dexedrine..i just recently went on it,it makes me sick as hell..stomacheaches and headaches.

Yes pacil and no it did nothing I have also been on Riddlen and hodule they to dont work.

not for trich, but i'm on anxiety meds and antidepressents for anorexia, depression, and borderline personality disorder. lexapro, effexor, klonopin, risperadol

none

No

No not for trich. I have been prescribed xanax for panic attacks though. I haven't taken it yet.

no

yes, zoloft and prozac. The zoloft worked for a little while, but eventually it started up again and I am not sure about the prozac. Prescribed in the state of Florida

yes, praxil - didn't find very helpful, switched to med climoprimine (?)

no

no

prozac- it made me sick, did not help at all luvox- didnt seem to do anything zoloft- helped with my depression and anxiety, but did nothing for the hairpulling.

Paxil-No Luvox-no Prozac-no

Prozac and Welbutrin-the Prozac seemed to help me not pull, but gave me a euphoric feeling (bubble feeling) that I opted to try something else. Welbutrin, I can't say I really recall...must not have else I'd still be on it!

Prozac-not helpful Paxil-20-60 mlg helped for one week and then stopped

Zoloft, Luvox, and most of the other SSRIs. I cannot remember their names, but they all helped me. The only problem was that I became accustomed to each one and they quit working for me. I started with Zoloft and am back on it now. I am on weekly Prozak now, and that is by far the best working SSRI for me.

prozac was effective the first time I took it,(quit when pregnant), but not the second time around. Zoloft not effective.

yes Im on 100 milligrams of paxel cr and Its not helping at all Igo back to the doctor next week

No, I was on Prozac for depression

zoloft, and it did not help at all, I think it made me worse

no i have never been medicated for this my parents have no idea is a disorer they think i do this because im stupid, they say im only doing this because i ahve nothing else betetr to do, i have never got any medication my parents and brothers think i only do this because im stupid and they say because i want to ahve no hair at all, but their wrong i want to stop thats why im in this websites because i need help from other people.

No, I have never confided in anyone other than family. My doctor prescibed my wellbutrin for anxiety. He is not aware of my trichotillomania and it is getting worse.

I am taking Zoloft for depression currently, but it has not reduced my hair pulling so far.

Effexor XR (had EXTREME side-effects, for me at least), Paxil, Prozac, and sleeping pills just caused weight gain, MORE anxiety, and overall just didn't help.

regaine. Minoxidil.Yes it's a good product, however it does'nt treat the cause.

Luvox--absolutely not. It made me crazy. Zoloft--no. Prozac--the only one I've been able to handle, but doesn't seem to stop the actual hair pulling. It's great for my depression though.

celexa. not helpful

Zoloft. At the time I was on this I was around 8 or 9 years old. I personally didn't really think I did much for me. Although I really wasn't thinking about it because of my young age.

prozac which didnt work, zoloft and concerta which helped with depression but not for trich

anafranil and yes I feel it has help but I still pull

Paxil--I was 14 and I only took it for a week or so, I was stubborn and thought that I didn't need it. I also tried Zoloft--for depression, but it didn't seem to do anything at all.

Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Anafranil, Atarax- all not helpful. Remeron helpful for awhile, although I stopped on my own a year after d/c'ing meds

anafranil...not successful paxil...not successful

Serzone. It was quite successful.

No meds, cause there aren't any that will help

Luvox - BAD! Made the pulling worse. I felt like climbing the walls. Since then I refuse any and all medication.

yes, abilify so far, no help

Well, I'm on effexor for an anxiety disorder and my doctor said it should also help with compulsive behaviors. I've noticed some improvement, but I have also significantly decreased my pop (caffeine) intake around that same time.

I am currently on Lexapro. It hasn't made a significant difference but I am not working a therapist either.

No, but I'm presently on DHA supplements. I may be finding them helpful, less pulling but I'm also doing the cognitive therapy.

Paxil for the trich and OCD. It helped but I did not like the side effects.

Fluoxetine 20 mg - it has helped, since I do tend to suffer from bouts of depression.Although I physically and mentally feel better about myself now more than ever,I still pull but not as frequently.

no, none of the therapist's I went to knew what it was...

Zoloft - I am still on it, I find it helps me stay stress free but makes me want to pull even more.

paxil, prozac, inafranil, no help at all

Prozac,Depakote. Yes it did help to a degree. But more than anything it helped me deal with the problem

About 15 years of suffering finally saw a magazine which referred to "pulling hair out" - went and saw doctor who tried me on prozac for 6 months - didn't like it and have had no treatment since.

Prozac it has not been successful

yes , zoloft- at first paxil- no celexa- kinda

YES - BUT IT IS SO LONG AGO I CAN'T REMEMBER - I WAS TAKEN TO SEE ALL KIND OF SPECIALISTS ABOUT LOSING MY HAIR BECAUSE NO ONE KNEW WHAT WAS CAUSING IT - THEY PUT ALL KIND OS PASTES ON MY HAIR BUT OF COURSE NONE OF THEM DID THE TRICK - I SAW A TRICHOLOGIST ABOUT IT.

I didn't even know there was medication!

She has been prescribed luvox, celexa and paxil. they did not help and had side effects

no but i heard that selsun blue (medicated) worked, so I tried it and it reall seemed to work.

Zoloft - not helpful

a combination of celxa and Anaphranil. For a short time, it did help some of the trch triggers, but I never achieved a pull free status

UV treatment - did not help at all and burnt my face

Yes it helped, but can't remember the name of the meds

yes, Zoloft, and no it isn't helping, even at the highest dosage level

Prozac and Paxil, neither one really had any effect on me.

Seroxat for depression and panic attacks but this didn't help with the pulling.

Prozac. Only on about one week. Found it made me spacey and bitchy.

Never told doc.

Wellbutrin. I thought it helped some.

zoloft i was also being treated for depression and insomnia this drug helped with both. Aropax unsuccessful

I have had prozac, paxil, and some other really bad mental drugs that led to a really bad place for me. The prozac gave my stomach fits. The paxil wasn't that bad. I might could do that again. I will never do those others. They were for manic depresson. They caused me to almost lose my mind.

not specifically for trich, but prozac, paxil and remeron, none of which really helped, now trying Effexor XR

clomipramine - took one pill that made half of me walk straight and the other half, sideways. That was enough of that. Zoloft - felt like I ad the flu all the time. Didn't help Mannerix - antidepressant - didn't like. If I missed one, felt like I was bottoming out emotionally. Supposed to be taking Celexa now - great antidep., but too expensive to afford. Don't know if it helps as never take it long enough.

Prozac, didn't help at all

zoloft-no, prozac-no, wellbutrin-no, buspar-yes, luvox-not so far

zoloft, celexa, prozac- none were effective

Paxil~~~~It hasn't stopped the pulling, but I am not as anxious over it anymore.

Luvox, Clomipromine and Risperdol for a short time

Zoloft--not helpful at all.

yes, prozac, zoloft, buspar, sleeping pills rattling and pulling like mad

Yes: Zoloft helped. Others that didn't: Prozac, Buspar, Luvox

zoloft (not helpful) luvox (not helpful)

I was put on prozac but I wasn't depressed. It made me feel like I couldn't be me, like I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't sleep and my anxiety caused more pulling.

I take Paxil CR, it helps some but not a lot...It does help me realize that I am pulling instead of just not even noticing if I am pulling and at least at that point it is my choice to pull or not... but usually the desire/temptation overwhelmes and I end up pulling

No, this is the first time I have ever really talked about this problem. I never really admitted to my mother until recently that I pulled them out. I was afraid to admit as a child that I pulled them so I lied for years that they just fell out

luvox (sp?) i did not find it successful. i actually hated the way i felt when i was taking it

I was put on zoloft for a while but it was because my therapist decided the picking and pulling was a symptom of other unhappiness. I took the zoloft for a while but then went off it and stopped the therapy.

Prozac- no Celexa- no Lexapro- no

Yes. Luvox, I have just begun this medication.

No, i thought i was the only person in the world who did it up until today when a friend told me to research this.

just anti-deppresives. ive been prescribed: paxil, prozac, wellbutren, and gabitrail. they have not helped none of them have.

prosac,no. zoloft,no. carbotrol,no. lithium,no. , a couple more but cant remember thaqt far back.

prozac, not really buspar, not really

ONLY ETHERMOYCIN

I cannot remember the name of it. But it did not work.

luvox- made me angry propranolol- useless celexa- useless ativan- somewhat helpful (wasn't being prescribed to me... )

anafranil - effective at first for several months, then started pulling again. Paxil - presently on this. Still pull my hair

Prozac. It didn't help at all and it made me unable to show any emotion or cry, which in turn just made me angry. Everything built up and when I stopped taking it, I was an emotional wreck. I have taken Effexor, Trazadone, Lexapro, Nortryptaline, and Wellbutrin and none helped with the trich

Lustral - ssri - and no it wasn't helpful, although the doctor didn't warn me of the side effects which didn't help

It has been suggested that tofranil (imipramine) might help. I'm scared to try it though.

prozac & seroxat no

zoloft and paxil the paxil didnt work and i am still on the zoloft i dont thin any of the medications helf me

PRAXATINE I WAS ONLY ON IT FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS I DID START TO SEE A DIFFRENCE THEN I FELL PREGNANT

luvox, zoloft, paxil, prozac, depakote, ritalin...none successful

Which to start with:Prozac didnt work at all,Luvox kinda worked ,Risparadallworked for anxity Anafranil made me feel like i was on speed.Wellbutron/Buspar combination is what Im on and I workes goog for trich, and anxity. Also St.Johns Wart(herbal)workedvery well.Ps I suck at spelling the Meds so if its spelled wrong sorry.

Yes. Anafranil. Found the hair pulling to be even more prevalent.

no...I am on Zoloft..but would never tell my Cr. I have Trich. I am on it for panic attacks

zoloft and prozac, neither of which did anything for me

None. Only tranquillizers when I was 11 although I refused to take them and when I did it did not help.

Lexapro, possible it worked, not sure tho was zombified

I took Paxil, but due to other emotional problems I found that it was ineffective.

Navane-sucessful Zoloft- not sucessful

clonazepam; alprazolam; a variety of SSRIs and other antidepressants such as MAOIs; trazodone; Remeron--none help much.

Not conventional medication (only homeopathic general treatment which I don't know the details of).

zoloft- helpful Respirodal- not helpful Meresa- not helpful and made me gain weight Halophiridal- v. helpful, but made me sleepy

luvox, it helped me emmensly. lowered my compulsions alot

Yes, I have been prescribed Zoloft(which made it worse) and Celexa (which had no effect at all)

No the only Doctor I did ask about it made me feel such an idiot I never asked again.

Seroquel- worked but wore off now trying Zyprexa but notworking. Geodon- worked at about 50%

Luvox - successful but only lasts for as little as a week, to as long as 3 months. Adding rispardol also seemed to lengthen the effects. Each attempt at medication was different for me. I found that taking the meds for 1-2 weeks and then weening off, also sometimes worked for up to 3 months even though I stopped taking it.

Prozac, did not find it successful, thought it affected other areas of my life.

Zoloft it wasnt sucessful

No medication Most Doctors appear not to know anything about Trich.

I have taken Prozac, celexa, lots of other things, can't even remember now. I also have migraines and arthritis (mild), and take medication for that which helps the pain in my head after I have dug the scabs out. The pain is awful sometimes, and goes into my ear, down my face, guess I have hit a nerve. Then it heals and I do it again. Why, why, why???

chlolipromine (anfranil) not v successful, became addicted, and had side effects on paroxitine (Aropax) not sure if its working or not

not medication but I have been rerferred to a psychologist and a mental health nurse

I never brought it up to doctors they seemed to dismiss my trich.

wellbutrin helped

i dont have my own doctor but i saw a doc, that specialise in(OCB) he tryed giving me some sampels of 5 years exp, celexa but i said noway so he gave me one year exp,and i took halff of onethe first day and half the following day that had throwing up and noesbleeds the next day.in two days ispit 1 pill. and i'll never take them or see that doc.

lustral, seroxat, amiltriptoline, effexor of which altered my rages but not the hairpulling

Not specifically for trich, but I take Buspar, Wellbutrin and Prozac for depression/obsessive-compulsive behaviors. no, I haven't really noticed a successful difference since taking the medications.

paxil...made me very sick. zoloft...made me very sick. Prozac...made me shake.

yes - I cannot remember, but it did not help - it was an antidepressant

homeopathic medicine, but I can't recall which.

No, but I did take Paxil for depression; it helped a bit.

Lithobid (Lithium Carbonate): It was useful during those two years, but there is something else involved with stopping.

Prozac. I "lost it" after being on it for a week or so. I was obsessive, jealous and out of control and character.

fluoxetine (type of prozac). it takes about two weeks before you start to feel any different. so far i feel it is starting to help. iv'e been on them about three weeks.

just tried herbal things~ St. John's Wort didnt help, it might have made it even worse actually and now I'm trying 5-

never been to the doctor about it

Zoloft,paxil,buspar … all rubbish

Anaphronil...I was 9, and don't remember its effects Prozac...when I was 9 and again when I was 20, it didn't make things better but didn't make them worse either Luvox...I was 20, it made my pulling much worse (after I stopped taking Luvox, I read that researchers think it may cause caffeine to stay in the body up to 2-3 times more than normal) I currently take Paxil and have been taking it for about 2 and 1/2 years...I'm on 20mg a day and it seems to work pretty well.

effexor, and it hasn't seemed to help with the pulling.

Paxil- mildly successful, less pulling but did not stop

yes it was something like depasomething and it didnt work

The best I know is Luvox......can't really say if it helped or not. I am still on it. I still pull. I guess I could be worse than I am. So I am not sure on that.

Zoloft. Only temporary. It's mainly for depression, I was suffering from more anxiety than depression,

prozac didn't work!

yes, i take zoloft. it makes me feel better about myself, but the hair pulling remains the same

I just started taking Prozac 3 months ago, and I think it's helping a little bit. I'm not as anxious as I was, and they are growing back for now.

Anafranil - reduced pulling but not substantially. Prozac - no effect

Prozac. It didn't help at all.

I took Paxil for depression in my 30's

Anti-depressants - Citolapram. Only on them for 3-4 months last year as made me really anious/worse so took myself off them.

LUVOX - NOT SUCCESSFUL PROZAC - NOT SUCCESSFUL PAXIL - NOT SUCCESSFUL ZOLOFT - ON CURRENTLY AND HELPS A LOT! MOST OF MY EYELASHES ARE BACK!

stratara i havn't been on it long enough to know

I don't remember the names of the drugs. Growing up doctors did not know what was wrong with me. I went to dermatologists and psychiatrist.

Yes. I'm currently taking Zoloft. It does work some, but I still pull a lot.

Yes I was percribed 2000 ml of nuerotin a day it was very sucessful VERY!!!

Celexa was prescribed for anxiety and depression, I do like it above all others. However, it doesn't help the pulling.

I have and do take antidepressents for other reasons, since I never knew eyebrow plucking was a disorder, and I think it may have become less interesting to me (plucking).

yes i was on paxil and i found it not to be helpful at all. i was also put on prozac and found that to be a little bit helpful but not enough to keep it under control for more then a couple of hours

no

Clonazepam, and it made my pulling worse and other problems.

Prozac, hmmm kinda of... luvox, made it worse, (that was horrible...I am in recovery for anorexia/bulimia and gained weight rappidly,) zoloft 50 mg and helping yet I am on adderall as well which might contribute to it

anafranil......this made me very sleepy so I had to get off it. Prozac.....had side effects so had to get off it

Antidepresents, paxil, wellbutrin, and others. This have not been effective

Zoloft for depression but it did not help my depression or pulling of my hair

I took zoloft for about 6mths, and I didnt feel that it helped at all, I took up to 150mg. I just recently started taking Lexapro, I'm not sure how it will work, but I've heard its good.

Luvox; there's been many other's but I was too young to remeber, Luvox was the one I was on for the longest and in a way it helped me.

No,but I was on paxil for severe depression. It didnt affect my trichotillomania.

Seroxatin. Only aided my depression

kind of. st. john's wort was perscribed for my depression but it made me too hyper and i became another person almost

I am currentlly taking Levoxyl 1.75 mcg for Thyroid and Zoloft 200 mg for depression - daily.

Prozac, did not find it successful in my treatment as the side effects made me sick.

Zoloft was not effective. In fact, my doctor and I thought it might have made it worse. I'm now on Celexa for depression and to help the trich and it does seem have worked a bit.

Zoloft didn't help

10 or 11 years ago I asked to be put on anafranil (I read about it in a magazine as treatment for trich) Yes it helped but the side affects were to much. I am on Zoloft now and do not notice any change. I haven't talked to a Dr. about this in about 10 or 11 years, I am to ashamed.

No. I went to the doctor's when I found out it would take around a month to grow back my eyelashes. The doctor told me things I could do to prevent the pulling. Ex- Apply Vaseline to my eyelids to make it harder to pull. But that didn't work. I just wipped it off.

Paxil...I don't think it really helped me much. I did not see an improvement in my pulling

a therapist put me on Zoloft then prozac, didn't take either. Didn't want to.

seroxat - not successful lozac - not successful

I have never been to a doctor about this.

Prozac, years ago

I have taken paxil for awhile now it did not make me stop but I would say it helped even me out alot.

Yes, but it was supposed to be for OCD with effective Trichotillomania symptoms. Paxil and Chlomoprine ( I'm unsure of the exact spelling.)

Yes, Xanax worked best.

I was given medication to help ease the anxiety that was supposedly causing it. Paxil, etc. No effect whatsoever.

My Effexor dosage was upped just today actually...not sure yet of the effectiveness

Yes, Wellbutrin. NO it weas not succesful

Luvox and Anafranil Luvox keeps the edge off my anxiety Anafranil worked incredibly but I literally had no energy so I dropped that med.

never--- i have never told anyone about my problem--- i saw soemthing on the health channel the other night about this and realized ---wow ...i'm not the only one ---so i thought i might look further into it

not directly for trichotillomania. i was being treated for depression and ocd i was prescribed clomipramine, and later 60 mgs dosage of prozac. i had previously read these were medications and dosages prescribed for trichotillomania.

around age 10 - 2-3 different tabs at one time from a psychiatrist. no idea what called and totally useless. At age 16 prozac. Useless This year homeopathy which has practially eradicated all anxiety. Pulling is yo-yoing.

No My doctor would'nt take me serious. At that time I did'nt know it was an illness I never approached anothe doctor.

Too ashamed to talk to anyone face to face about my problem.I hide this from my husband but I know he notices my eyes sometimes. He just never mentions it to me. I did feel him rum his fingers over my eyes after we were first married when he thought I was sleeping. He has also told me I could talk to him about anything. I just can't seem to talk about it with anyone. I keep applying the eyeliner and thick coats of mascara after a bout of pulling them out.

Yes, but I can't remember the name. It didn't do anything for it. I did lose my appetite.

prozac, paxil. It was helpful for a short period of time with pulling because i was super positive about everything, but it changed my personality... so i stopped. I do not beleive in anti-depressants because they change the normal balance of mood swings. Everyone has good days and bad days and unless you're manic depressive, one should stay away from drugs that mess with the brain and personality. NO ONE IS HAPPY ALL OF THE TIME

have not been prescribed medication for trich but do take meds for ADD and Mild depression, Concerta, Elival, and Lexapro.

Cipramil - have not yet noticed an extremme difference.

paxil and i think a little bit so far.

Effexor helped my depression, which is a part of my trich. My trich hasn't stopped though. I am going to try revia for impulse control. Xanax, used very sparingly, like 1/4 of a tab on nights that I can predict a pulling spree helps immensely.

no, never been to a doctor about it

I have visited one physician regarding my eyelashes and he only response was to laugh at me and make fun of me even after I told him I was self conscious about my appearance, that is professionalism at its best. I also asked my opthamologist about the burning sensations and he informed me that my eyes itched instead of burned. I do not know who to visit that will actually listen to what I am saying and take me serious. Since the discomfort is not daily, I can not make the discomfort magically appear on the day of an appointment.

Prozac - totally worthless

I take Paxil for general anxiety, including trich. I feel much less anxious if I'm taking a small dose, but when my dosage has increased I feel worse.

Zoloft-- no.

Paxil - Helped w/ depression, but not my hairpulling Anafranil - did not help at all Prozac - did not help at all Luvox- did not help Zoloft - did not help Naltrexone - nothing Celexa - nothing

Neurontin-yes it helped me and still is. there were others that i can't remember that didn't help.

yes. I take effexor XR or something like that is the main one I found effective and I am on it now.

zoloft:no

Luvox - not really helpful. Prozac - helpful for a short time. Wellbutrin - not really helpful

Yes, Zoloft and it was not helpful for me. I am about to start Celexa

no-just prescribed meds for depression, and none of them have ever stopped the urges.

Zoloft. Not successful - I was very happy and relaxed, but I pulled more than usual just because I didn't care about anything, so I didn't even care if I pulled.

just antibiotics for folliculitis

risperal

No, but I do wonder if they work.

never diagnosed with trich but on paxil, prozac, zoloft, buspar... nothing helped significantly

Only thing at one time I was prescribed from a pyschologist was Prozac. I didn't even take any of them, so can't say that they helped. Also, my hair dresser each time I see her threatens me with the thought of her standing over me yelling at me to NOT PULL YOUR HAIR, and that doesn't help. lol.

Prozac-no Zoloft-no

No

Prozac-No help Lamectil-Still in testing Xanax-not practical in life

medication for depression - never mentioned trich to doctor as had no idea it was a known disorder. Have been on and off citalopram (SRRI) twice. Am on it currently. Does not help the trich at all.

Prozac, no. Celexa, a little. Lexapro, a little. Clonazepam, a little. Wellbutrin, not at all.

no

No, but had antidepressants (effexor) which i think may have helped even though they were not prescibed for this

I had lots of test done when my parents found the bald spots went to hospital for test like my follicals, which the doctors told my parents i pulled, but i denied it, and they still dont know now,i have been on prozac before but for depression, not the hair pulling, as after a few years at the start of my pulling the doctors didn,t really want to know and left me to it.

yes, Zoloft helpful. Lovox not help due to side effect I did not stay on it very long, even at a low dose. 25mg halfed

Paxil, Anafranil, Celexa, Zoloft, ( I think these are the right names) none worked very well for me or for very long

I was prescribed both effexor and risparidahl (each at different times)to combat anxiety/depression (which tie into the hair pulling), but they were both unsuccessful. I was switched to prozac which I later chose to quit taking. I found that the medications offered no help when it came to hair pulling.

yeah, i was on prozac. it was helpful and then we lost insurance and i stopped taking it because i figured there was no point since i wouldn't have the money to get it.

Prozac-no

When I was younger I was one of the first patients on prozac, however, this made me pull out of control...I pulled every lash and eyebrow out while on it. I was also on another one but I can not rememer the name, also did not work for me.

No, because I am too embarrassed to tell my Doc, and I really like to keep my hair trim (pubic hair).

Natural antidepressant - St John's Wart

No. I will not take psychotropic drugs under any circumstances

Ritalin, not successfull, refused to take it. Lithium, successfull but I gained too much weight and stopped it. Prozac, successfull for short time. Luvox, not successfull. Zoloft, not successfull.

Cipralex for depression, has not worked one jot with trich.

prozac-no success

no, would never take medication

prozac, no it did not help

Zyprexa, hated it - made me zoned out, made me eat, made me sleep. Celexa is good, helps a little.

Yes, I went to a psychiatrist at my college health services to try to deal with the issue through talking, but she wanted to put me on Prozac. I then saw someone else who was useless, and she referred me to a private shrink when my free visits ran out, who was the worst of them all. It seemed like she was very disapproving and judgemental. Because I hated talking to her, and nothing was changing, I let her proscribe me Prozac and I took it for a couple of months. All that happened was that I lost my appetite and lost weight.

SAT IN GPS OFFICE AND EXPLAINED WHILST CRYING THAT I PULL OUT MY OWN HAIR.HE SAID HE HAD NEVER COME ACROSS THIS BEFORE AND DECIDED I MUST HAVE DEPRESSION AND GAVE ME A PRESCRIPTION FOR PROZAC WHICH I DID NOT FETCH.

prozac- no good., xznax no good .,anafranil no good., efexor no good, and many more

yes i took prozac for a while. it seemed to help but was it the placebo effect? i did not like the side effects so i stopped.

didn't know there was medication

the first medication that i was ever prescribed for trich was also prescribed for depression. my doctor thought it would work both ways. that was Zoloft. it worked for my mood but not for my hair pulling. so she kept upping the dosage until i was on 200mg and shaking throughout the day. after that i was on fluoxotine (im not sure if thats how you spell it) but it was a generic prozac. it worked a little, but i didnt even notice it until i stopped taking it. i stopped b/c i thought it wasnt doing anything for my hair or my mood. and just recently my doctor put me on fluvoxamine maleate, she thinks it will help my trich, i told her i dont care abou tmy depression at this point, if we can get this under control, it will make me a much happier person. we have also tried hypnotism, we did it twice, the first time it seemed to work for a short while, but then not anymore so we tried it again, and it failed

no, I am going to see my doctor for the first time about it, I never knew that this was actually an illness until I started researching it

prozac, no difference

I was perscribed Prozac for depression. It did not do anything for my trichotillomania.

Zoloft... No not really

Buspar-no, Prozac-no

There is medicine for this I have keep this as my secret and I am finally at a point where I can't take it anymore I want to style my hair.

Never told anyone, didn't realize until a televsion programme on chanel 5 last month, it was a disorder

paxil-not very helpful on the small dosage i am now taking

paxil. (i think its called something else in britain) i dont think it helped at all.

no, gp doesnt want to know and keeps telling me Ill grow out of it, Im now 24 !

anti depressants, didn't help

carbamazepine / lithium / anti-psychotics wasn’t psychotic until I was on the meds

ive recently tried prozac, but it didnt help. also tried hypno, psychiatrist, behavioural therapy, acupunture, healing. nothing works

I have never admitted this to any doctor I have. I have never spoken of it to my first husband ( 20 years) my current husband (6 years) I have two children a daughter 24 and a son 22 years. They do not pull nor have we ever discussed it. My mother is now deceased and my father and my sister never mention it.

Yes, lexapro, also for depression/anxiety. It was not successful for pulling.

Right now I take Prozac and Buspar for trich. It is okay. I was on Risperdahl, Zyprexa, and Luvox. The Risperdahl was working good for me. However, during the time I took it, I was lactating ( never been pregnant or nursing)and had a seizure. I doubt that the Risperdahl contributed to the seizure, but it made my hormones out of whack.

valium at the age of 11 how irrespondible

clonidine, celexia, topamax.....not sure, on too many to be able to tell

paxil.. wyoming and no i did not find it helpfull.I also was on depakote (sorry for spelling) and it was not helpfull either.

I've taken every type of antidepressant. I don't find it helps me. Longest strech on meds for about 6-8 months. Maybe not enough time. Couldn't take side affects.

zoloft- did not work wellbutrin-did not work prozac- currently on, doesn't help much for pulling

effexor...successful at first but then it would stop helping and i had to go up in dosage. started on zoloft and that seems to be working really well thusfar.

Yes. I was on Effexor XR for both trich and depression/social anxiety. It did not help. I am now on Lexapro, and it's not helping much either.

zoloft, prozac made lots worse

Seretonin inhibitors - not successful

No, I am taking prozac for severe PMS.

Prozac and Anafranil. I still pull.

paxal...somewhat helpful.buspar, terrible made it worse and worsened my mood. risperdal, didn't do much. i am currently on zoloft and zyprexa. going alright. better than before

prozac and something else that I can't remember the name. It wasn't successful that I remember.

Yes, I was but can't recall the name it wasn't successful anyway.

prozac no zoloft no paxil no

various anti-depressants such as celexa, clonezepam, paxil, zoloft.. maybe ante depressing but not anti hair pulling

Today is the day I realized I had it. I always wondered if I had a disorder & just thought I was obsessive/compulsive...

Prozac, 40 mg. I don't think it has helped much

yes, *Altruline and *Lexapro,, they both worked only for the first week, it impooved very little over all, Altruline was a lot better though, the other one is pretty new, and it gives a horrible depression a few days after you stop taking it!! so watch out!!!

None, I went to the doctor recently & told him that I felt generally down, he asked a few questions but was generally dismissive, in my case I certainly feel that my lack of wellbeing, selfesteem, anxiety, mild depression is the trigger for my pulling not the other way round

Tried illegal drugs.

I was prescribed zoloft, luvox, lexapro and paxil. So far I have found none to work for hair pulling. They seem to help with anxiety some, but never help with pulling.

No. I only went to a psychologist and they can't prescribe drugs

Prozac... didnt help

yes. seroquil. I was on 100gm a day, which helped but it was only a temporary drug because my shrink wanted an amediat affect, i have come offit and i am pulling againa alot

Prozac It made it worse!

Anafranil, Prozac, Paxil, Neltrexzone, Celexa all waste of money

prozac initially successful, many other antidepressants for dysthymia

I am currently taking Buspar.I don't think it is helping me so far.

Zoloft, somewhat successful

Anafranil - NO Seroxat - No Effexor - Yes

zoloft--successful once, but recently tried again and it was unsuccessful

prozac, lithium, celexa, honestly i didn't find any of them helpful, they were instead gettin me drowsy

Paxil was hopefess

Luvox, I hated it. I felt like I was in a trance and was unproductive. I had trouble sleeping and eating.

About to be put on anti-depressants and have seen a psychiatrist who says I am mildly depressed. I am not depressed

Zoloft - no, and Risperdal - no effect

i am taking effexor for panic attacks/depression. according to my psychiatrist, effexor should address certain chemicals responsible however it does not really help.

zoloft, and i'm not sure because i have depression and other issues in my life. plus, i didn't always take it when i was supposed to. however, i am currently taking it again, and i feel that i am making some progress in dealing with this issue. and yes, i am taking it every day.

no medication phychiastic assessment when about 9 years old. phychiastist recommended to keep hand busy

paxil it was not successful

no i take st johns wort

none doctor un helpfull said it was a habit I just had to change

Luvox..successful...it lessened the urge. Paxil CR....not successful....made me too tired...only on it for 3 weeks. Prozac......not successful....could not concentrate at work...only on it 3 weeks.

Luvox- not helpful, made me very ill Paxil- prescribed for another condition, not very helpful I found that a combination of Zoloft and Seroquel helped to control my anxiety which in turn decreased the hair pulling

clomipramine- it helped me emotionally feel a lot better, but it didn't stop the pulling. currently taking imipramine-just started a few days ago, don't see any progress yet.

anafranil(clomipromine)I probably didnt stay on it long enough for it to work.I remember it made me have dizziness, dry mouth.I began to think that this was perhaps not a physiological disorder but perhaps a behavioral one that medication would not help.

Luvox- but it did not help, in fact it really made my life unmanagable all together. I have some other issues like depression and when I took the Luvox I was sick real fast.

paxil, prozac, xanax, luvox, anafranil no noticeable differences with any

vitamins-not successful prozac-not successful

Zoloft made me quit … school … my relationship … my job … not pulling

Prozac- was not successful, zoloft- not successful

i went to the doctor and they perscribed Paxil for me because she thought that trich was from my nerves

just started taking zoloft. too early to tell.

i was given zoloft, prozac and other meds. that only made me feel every horrible side effect possible.

i was given seroxat b/cause i was told i was dpressed at 14, eve ntho i was bein bullied at school which is why i did not want to go. but i did not tell anyone this, i was told they did not know wat i was doin pullin out my eyelashes

I was prescribed Proxac for a short time but did not continue taking it. I maybe took it for 5/6 weeks.

no

No. I have never told anyone about my trich, though I have been pulling on and off for almost 16 years. Only three people have seen my baldness - my hairdresser, my best friend and my husband. I have told all three of these people that I have been "diagnosed" with stress induced alopecia. Not entirely untrue.......

yes lexapro, and many others just dont know there names but it did not help

BUSPORONE, NO, IT MADE ME VERY DIZZY, SO I HAD TO STOP TAKING

anti depressents but didn't like side affects so tried herbal ones liked them

yes, prozac, and lithium at a later stage hopless hopeless hopelleess

Lexapro---it seemed to help, although I'm not sure it lasted and they kept putting the dosage up until my bf told me to stop

well it also was used for depression, im on citalopram, i dont know anyother details only that its an antdepressant drug.

yes. I think it was Ampicillan, but it didn't really help much because I forgot to take it a lot.

celexa, not at all something with a k and it didn't work either

no was unaware there is some

the doctor put me on zoloft for anxiety - i stopped taking it after a month or two. it didn't work.

no-never have had treatment for it. I did tell my primary care doctor, but he never said anything about it, nor thought I should see anyone.

Zoloft and that one that is for severe depression (it starts with a "C" I believe). I felt like the second one made me feel more aware when I was pulling, but neither seemed to make it go away.

prozac was helpful for about 2 months

no, but I take lamictal, effexor and serequal for bipolar 1

I was prescribed, prozac and paxil. The drugs helped me not concentrate on all of the negative things around me, but It really didn't help with the pulling.

Prozac, and no success

Paxil I really didn't like; Prozac made me pull more for some reason; Zoloft didn't do anything for me; and I forget the name fo the one I'm on now, but if seems to be working pretty well so far - I feel less depressed.

a physr. precribed me one med. i cannot remember name, and it didnt help. A md doc, precribed me lexapro, and this just made me very jittery, and didnt help..then I was precribed a small dose of a narcotic i cannot remember name of, this somwhat helped, but doctor I was seeing, didnt seem to care too much, so i was put on highest dosage of wellbutrin, and this id not help either, now i am not on anything.

anti-depressants it use to make me sick so i stopped using it. i can't remember the brand it was a long time ago.

My father took me to a psychiatrist when I was seventeen, she referred me to a psychotherapist who prescribed prozac. My father said he noted a difference in my personality, but I was still pulling. I quit taking it within a year because I saw no difference. I know there are new drugs on the market now but I have never gone back to a therapist. I am 25 now

cyperamil. i was prescribed 3,1/2 pills each day, it didnt help me. but it helped a lot with my social problems. it is also important to say that i would always run out of medication and it took a while untill i got back on it.

i been on lexapro and it hasn't helped. i got a scratch test done on my back from an allergist. the dermatologist didn't know what i could do. he just recommended zoloft.

yes, paxil made me it worse and i went into depression untill taken off the med, and paxil didnt make a difference.

I've tried prozac, wellbutrin, paxil, none of it helped

prozac, i did not find it successful

Prozac-not to helpful, Anafranil- not helpful, effexor-not helpful, Celexa-helpful

Prozac, anafranil, paxil

they tried seroxat but it made me very sick. Oter than that no. I've been on prozac for depression but that didnt really help at all - or at least i dont think it did, certainly ive never stopped pulling for any serious length of time

i went to a specialist but after i moved away and forgot about the doctor

yes Prozoc

no it takes 5 months to get to a doctor to get medicine and i'm waiting. i told my dermatologist but he didn;t help.

not for trichotillomania in particular, but take mood stabilisers

No I dont think so but I am on Paxil

ZOLOFT, AND 2 OTHER ANTI DEPPRESSENTS, DIDN'T WORK..MADE ME A ZOMBIE

anti depressants a few years ago but were no help a all. Have also tried hypnosis and acupuncture but neither any help

Proxac, seroxat, neither were successful

Yes. Busbar (sp). Not successful.

i have never taken medication. I'm not fond of them.

Prozac. Helped some when I was 17, but not later as an adult in my 20's.

I AM CURRENTLY ON WELLBUTRIN. THIS HAS BEEN THE ONLY MEDICATION THAT HAS OFFERED SOME HELP.

prozac, lexapro, zoloft. semi helpful but not enough to keep my hair from being noticably thin

prozac tryptophan...every ssri...have been on many meds for other reasons as well, neuroleptics, benzos mood stabilizers.prozac helped but i cannot take it as it makes me suicidal.

just prescribed two days ago. Prozac....takes 2 weeks to show results.

no i didnt know it was a medical condition.

No but please find a good one! :-9

doctor thought zoloft would help me possibly quit pulling so much.

Xanax .025mg po twice daily - Made it worse Lexopro .25 mg po daily - helped, but still did it

No. I have never been treated - only my mom, best friend, and boyfriend know about my problem, and I don't talk about it much to them, either - embarrassed.

no, i do not take medication well. I don't even take aspirin

No i havnt even been to my docter i read about a case with a girl in sugar magazine and thats when i realised my condition.

no, (i have a lot of hair and no particular part of my scalp is bold, the hair is just shorter, and looks a bit unhealthy)

yes luvox and celexa

No, but I suggested Wellbutrin SR after reading that it may help when I found a trich message board. I am now on Wellbutrin XL. I have found that I have more lashes longer now than ever before, but I still have episodes, like the other night.

no, getting ready to see a phychiatrist

I went through a serious of medications as a teenager, but none of them helped. Currently I am taking Luvox, which has made a tremendous difference. My anxiety is manageable, my concentration level has increased and I am better able to resit the impluse to pull.

I tried several antidepressants.....prozac, celexa, but none helped

no-i have visited a non-specialising child psychiatrist who made me wear rubber bands but this has not helped!

took prozac for about 10 months and went to therapy, maybe helped a little at first but not for long. It did help me feel better about myself

I have only been on one medication and that is prozak. It sucked. It did not help me at all. I would love to try another one.

Lexapro, I only took it for 2 days and it had me feeling really weird, I didn't like the feeling so I stopped taking the medication. It seemed like I started pulling worst after I had taken those pills.

I have taken Zoloft and paxil... They do not seem to work for me but I am trying

Luvox, Paxil, Anaphronil. None helped.

I've been prescribed prozac to help with depression but my doctor doen't know about my tric so he hasn't prescribed any medication or theraphy solely for it. Prozac hasn't helped much with the tric though.

Have always been on meds. Fluoextine, effexor, citalopram, cipramil, valium and diazepam.

Over the years I have tried hypnosis, no help, Prozac, too numb to remember mech, Zoloft, made me worse, valium, helps my anxiety but that usually comes after I have pulled them out

only antifungal ointments. it didnt help. didnt recognize this disease til yesterday.

I tried prosac, although it made me very mellow it was not a high dose and the doctor said that it would have to be a much higher dose in order to stave my trichotillomania. I was only at 20 milligrams a day and she said it would have to be between 4 and 500 - no thank you! I would have been a drooling zombie on that amount. As it was I lost all my edge and all my sex drive. Survey says pass.

Anaphranil- not particularly helpful Prozac- no change

zyprexa- may have worked a bit, but made me unbearably sleepy. while on it, i slept about 16 hours a day. i was put on it initally for bipolar disorder, but i'm not on it now because i couldn't deal with the sleepiness.

no. i have been on meds for depression since 1995. i had breast cancer in 92 and 94. i had both breasts removed. i am on lexapro 20mg and lorazepam 1mg, 3 times a day.

When I was thirteen my mum forced me to the doctors who prescribed Tranxene, I wouldn't take it. 25 years ago.

clomipromine (pamelor). It was fairly successful in repressing these traits, however, it had negative effects on my white blood cells and immune system.

Talked to my general physician about it, prescribed paxil which really didn't help. Buspar helped somewhat but did not enjoy the side effects so I stopped taking it.

Yes, i dont remember them there is too many but right now i am on Prozac and that is not helping

No. I haven't found a doctor yet that knows much about this nervous habit/disorder and one that could treat it.

Yes, I am prescribed Effexor XR

ciprami/citalopram - it does work when i take it properly.

Yes, Valium then Librium. Both were totally useless

Paxil, made things worse

Meds might help but a person cant overcome their habits just because of them, they have to mentally decide

prozac-first medication i tried. seemed to help for ver yshort time. though my doctor kept upping the doses it didn't help. Luvox- it didn't help. Zoloft-never help even at the highest dosage.

Prozac, 20mg twice a day, didn't help

yes. cerequel

Depakote. It was alright.

yes, but they were mostly to stop the itching and the depression that the doctor associated as the reason for the pulling. One was Luvox

No - parents took me to see a doctor when I was 8 or 9, it was treated as a scalp condition rather than waht it was - I was too scared to admit it was caused by me

no,my mother never took me to the doctor, we didnt even know what it is

small doses of Prozac.

Yes, I went to a shrink for about 6 months and tried 2 or 3drugs. I cant remember the names, Zynax(?), Prozac(?) I think but I just gained a lot of weight and abandoned the drug theraphy.

zanex,no

serance and celapram, it doesnt seem to work

Zoloft. But it only worked for awhile.

antideppresant - did not work

only antibiotical creams to clear infections. I use calendula tincture now.

Luvox - No Paxil - somewhat

Prozac,Zoloft

prozac...not sure if it helped

Currently taking Bupropion for Seasonal Affective Disorder- I notice that I have less an urge and more of an ability to make myself stop when I am taking the Bupropion.

prozac

luvox-no anafranil @250mg-yes paxil-no risperdol-no effexor-no welburtin-no (combo of lexapro and zyprexa very helpful for several months)abilify so far yes

i was on paxil for anxiety but it did not help too much with it.

paxil....helped first 6 months, then didn't celexa ... bad side effects, not helped with pulling one other... can't remember... didn't work

zoloft, and ritalin for ADHD for daughter

The only type of medicatio I took was anti-depresssants. This was beacsuse I was so stressed out by trich and became very depressed.

No, although I have taken Prozac for depression.

Prozac-was not very successful. Made me feel "dazed" and somewhat isolated from the real world Paxil-Helped a little as well as made me more social

I am currently taking the antidepressant Aropax. It has helped with my depression but has not helped or effected my hair pulling in any way.

Prozac - for depression, but its definitely helped, I have not pulled out any lashes since I started taking it in September 03 - bit worried about when I stop taking the tablets though

I used to take Effexor XR, Prozac and Zoloft, neither of those worked for me

wellbutrin...sort of. I've had other meds too, but all of them are the same. They work for a while and then stop.

No,but my doctor has put me on zoloft and trileptal for depression. She said i seem much calmer but i still pull.

Paxil-no luvox-no effexor-no

zoloft ca.

i've taken all kinds of psychotropic meds, none solely for my trich, but that was part of the reasoning: celexa, effexor, prozac, paxil, depakote, risperdal, zyprexa, topamax, klonopin, neurontin, wellbutrin, seroquel. nothing significantly helped.

Zoloft. It worked for a little while, but now it doesn't seem to be as effective.

Luvox, 4 wks trial. At first, made me pull a lot more, but I stopped pulling for several weeks after stopping taking it. Coincidently, my mood improved after the medication too

none i have never admitted it. I made out it was alopecia to excuse the embarrassment

Yes, I am taking paxil right now to help with it, but I haven't noticed any improvements.

prozac...i think it made it worse

I've taken Paxil without success

yes - do not remember the name- as so long ago and the drug was really new and Dr's afraid to prescribe it

Ritalin no it wasnt successful

yes... Zolfot and prozach and they only work for a short amount of time then the meds start to wear down for me. the more i take them the less i see them working

zoloft. strattera

prozac.. not really it dind't help that much

Zoloft. No effect so far (almost six months)

took seroxat for a year. it redused the stress while i was had-shaved and culdnot pull but didnt reduse the erge. when my hair grew back i started pulling it again took favoxil. but culd not handle the side effects: nutios, ensomnia, problens waking up, very high energy (one time a few month ago, when tryed to take pills again i got up in middel of class, got out and ran a mile arowd school to get out the nerves)

zoloft was taken for awhile because there was a chance i had depression, now i'm off of it. i still pulled my hair when i was on it, and after i got off. i was on it only a few months or so. no longer than 6. I don’t think I had depression

Yes at least 8 anti-depressants, 2 antipsychotics (stupid). Zoloft - helped my mood/depression, not trich though, no side affects. Risperdal/Seroquel also with the zoloft, helped me sleep at night and not be restless but not with hair pulling really. Paxil, Lexapro, Wellbutrin didn't really work at all so I quit those. I've been on Prozac for 3 weeks now and it has horrible side affects, I'm hoping they will go away in the next week or two, I've heard it takes a month to start working?

no although i do take effexor for depression it works great

no, I have never discussed it with anyone.. I didn't know this existed until late last year

lexapro..but didn't help much...

No- possibly in future though

Prozac 80 mg , no it did not arrest my pulling.

Fluticasone cream BP. it was good for incouraging hair growth a little quiker than usual but was very greasy- easily stain whatever the hair touches

No. I didn't even realise it was a common problem until today

paxil 10mg

Wellbutrin no

Zoloft-not successful Prozac-not successful Prozac and Zoloft-helped for a few months

none. l once went to a consultant and he sent me away, saying l had eyeliner on and l pulled my lashes so there was nothing he could do for me.

yes it's ZOloft-of 25mg for 2months Now taking Zoloft-of 50mg for 2weeks no help

zoloft, it has not worked

Paxil & Luvox. Neither were effective...At all.

welbutrin...not successful

Prozac. No i dont recall it being useful but I don’t recall much of when I took it

Yes, Phoebe takes 50mg of Zoloft a day. It's eased her anxiety, has done nothing for the pulling.

welbutrin, prozac...didn't work at all

My psychiatrist prescribed the medicatio Fluvox. It work for awhile. But I was never asked for a follow-up, so I did not improve.

No, I've never told my parents.

Paxil & Anafranil at the same time, seemed to help some

Wellbutrin SR 150 twice a day, and it did help a little bit.

No. I can not discuss this with a doctor. There is too much shame.

Prozac - yes, Anafranil- yes, Zoloft- no,

i have never been prescribed as i have never discussed this issue with any one .

Lexapro-10mg. It seems to work rather well for me, I am not so sure that it Directly treats trich, But i Do know it elevates my moods, makes things seem not as Bad, But most of all:: My Family, and closests friends have mentioned , on several occassions lately, that they Tell a DIFFERENCE in ME!!! They say they can just hear it in my voice

Zoloft, paxil, celexa non of the medications were successful.

I took prozac, and zoloft. I never took it long enough to know if it worked

Zoloft. I have only been on it for a short while and haven't built up to the dosage recommended by the psychiatrist yet. So far I've noticed that while I still pull and find it nearly impossible to stop, the depression that used to come afterwards has been mitigated.

Xoloft - still taking it. Helps, but I still pull.

I have never told anyone that I think I have it.

About 3 - 4 years ago, I was prescribed Paxil, which helped with depression but did nothing for the hair pulling.

No

zoloft, zyprexa, lexapro, wellbutrin, imipramine, seroquel no significant results just lessened my anxiety

no but i am on Seroxat for depression and bulimia, i dont think it has helped my pulling

prozac.. no paxil.. no

None. Never told anyone to get prescribed anything.

none, i only found out about trich tonight.

zoloft,but it doesn't help much.

yes and no i didnt find medication helpful it made me feel funny. zoloft

Haloperidol has been mildly successful.

Wellbutrin , it was not effective at all

Wellbutrin, no effect

LUVOX OFF AND ON

Lexapro, it is some what helpful, but this is a very stress time of year for me, as a college student, i am pulling more often now during the end of the semester even though i'm on meds

none

I'm already on Paxil for depression, but I'm not sure it's helping or not.

Not diagnosed with having trich as yet but have similar symptoms that I can see. Have had scalp applications and Nizoral shampoo for the surface scalp condition so far which do not seem to help.

tryleptil- i never took it enough to be successful

Lexapro was the most helpful. It makes me do itless but does not stop i tall together.

anafranil ;tofranil;prozac;litio;seropram ;without success

No, but I have been on Zoloft since before I started pulling, and I don't think that it helped at all.

I have been on prozac, buspar, celexa, risperdal, seroquel and now am on Zoloft.. I think prozac helped the most but I had side affects from it.. so I switched to Zoloft.

Also have dealt with depression so have had many antidepressant medications with are suppose to help with trich as well eg zooloft, prozac, anafranil, zyban ?, the one that halped most with my depression was a swedish drug which I can't remember the name of

Seroxat for depression and trich.its the wrost thing ive EVER taken in my life it made me so depressed i wanted to die, i pulled more than ever on it...then when istopped takin it...i stopped pulling...please warn EVERYone never ever to take this drug :( :(

zoloft, very successful for a short period of time (2 months) then not really helpful

Lexapro 10 mg is what I am taking and I still pull badly everyday.

Lexapro-for OCD, didn't help the trichotillomania

i was injected in the scalp 4-5 years ago when i had a smooth bald patch but as far as the hospital knew it had fallen out

I take Paxil for depression and OCD and it helps me pull less frequently but does not stop it completely. It helps mostly with the depression that would trigger pulling.

yes, prozac, clonopin, and several other I can't recall

I was prescribed Luvox for OCD, which I am diagnosed with, and the doctor thought it could possibly benefit with the trich as well.

No anti depression ever helped

Prozac - no effect. Made me agressive. Currently on Aurorix 300mg twice a day. Only started that dose now. Was on 300mg in morning and 150mg at night. Did'nt have that good effect. Will see now with the higher dosage.

mentioned it to doctor who gave me the name of the condition (whilst laughing) but not perscribed anything

zoloft and it did'nt help at all. Kept upping the dose until I was too doped up and disillusioned to go back to the doctor.

It was an antidepressant, and it didn't help at all.

yes, prozac yes at first

Prozac- not really Paxil-indirectly; it helped my control stress and therefore pulling, but it has ceased being effective and now i am trying to get off it (very difficult!)

prozac, paxil, zoloft. None helped

Lexotanil (spelling?). Very short term - a few weeks - did nothing to help. The doctor said it would help me stop being anxious

Zoloft get lost

i've been treated with fluoxotine which helps my depression but does not help with the pulling.

yes. Zoloft: didnt work. Luvox: works a little to take the stress away. but if the dosage is too high, i get depressed and suicidal thoughts

Prozach - did not work & paxil = did not work

Prozac and Paxil. Prozac helped and so did the paxil the first time. but the second time I went on Paxil (for post pardem) I was hoping it would help the trich, but it didn't.

zyprexa...helped/gained alot of weight/do not take it anymore because of weight gain...

no, never seen a doctor for it, wasn't ever an issue for me

zoloff, risperdal, anafranil, helped some except when i'm under stress

Yes, various anti-depressants. Nothing worked.

Luvox, Paxil, Risperdol, Lexapro no help

Celexa. It only helps with anxiety, but not at all with pulling

No, I didn't mention this disorder to my doctor until I was in my early 30s. He suggested behavior modification therapy, which was absolutely worthless.

yes ritalin it did not help me

Never seen a doctor before

NO, not directly. I have been on antidepressants for about 6 years. Prescribed for depression and than manic-depression

I take Zoloft for social anxiety. It does not help for trichotillomania.

yes luvox, buspaire, ephexor

well, i have ocd also, and i am talking Zoloft for depression, ocd, trich, and ptsd.

I have taken Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil for the problem none of which seemed to help me.

Zoloft Lexapro Wellbutrin Prozac pulled more on all

Prozac-80 mg per day-Not effective Risperdal-0.5 mg per day-Not effective

no, i never admited it when anyone asked so the doctor just said it was alopeacia or however you spell it

yes Zoloft and Prozac both in CT

i had Paxil and it made me do worse and i cant take it becouse when i toke i formed 2 now bould spots

yes but i cant remember the brand and no it did not help

Wellbutrin, zoloft, and others that I can't remember. Nothing works.

Prozac, Valium, Chlorpromazine all created confusion

Zoloft, not successful.

Celexa - slightly, but the side effects made it not worthwhile.

luvox helped to settle my emotions which resulted in some calm with my trichotillomania but pulling worse

No, but I have taken Zoloft for the last two and a half years for panic attacks (which I associate with trichotillomania) and I still pull incessantly.

yes i told doc and along with me feeling a little down she prescribed me floxetine anti-depressent, i only made a slight comment about it so doc never spoke to me just about this..too frightned to tell anybody

Anti-depressants, can't remember the brand but it didn't help at all

I have taken anxiety medication and am currently on welbutren and lexapro, they seem to be helping

Zoloft, for 4 years. I didn't see a change in my trichotillomania and it made depression worse.

No. Never sought treatment for it.

Never

Luvox worked well, but only for a period of about 6 months, then it wore off. I've been on SSRI type antidepressants for a long time and before that, tricyclics. I think these have both helped somewhat.

celexa-no help lexapro-no help

Prozac. I took it for 1 year when I was 19. I did not help me much.

yes...zoloft...not good ciprimil...great for my well being but not my hair

Zoloft - it helps, plus with the depression I have experienced, but pulling its never completely gone away. Have taken 100-150mg/day then they wanted to increase the dosage but I asked to stop if I saw no results and did not.

Yes! Valium. It has worked wonders. Been taking it since about age 15. Really decreased the trichotillomania urges! I still take it to this day..prn.. not daily..maybe every 3rd day. Still pulling

No never have. Actually I've never told a doctor my problem. I've always been too embarrised.

I've only been given prescriptions for my hair because the doctors said that it was OCD.

Several kinds of antidepressents. None of them worked.

um not for trichotillomania..but this zoloft tablet even tho i wasnt depressed

prozac an zoloft and they did nothing for my trichotillomania

Prozac, it caused me to gain 60 pounds, and I became uncontolably depressed

FL-no

paxil, it helps sometimes i guess

Anafranil - I took this medication on and off for a couple of years. At first I thought it was helping and in hindsight I realize it was me just psyching myself up for it because I wanted to be cured so badly. Overall I would say the medication did not help at all.

Paxil, it was some what effective.

lexapro, buspar, xanax not much help, xanax a little but by the time it starts working, i have already pulled out the hair.

Oh Yes.... Wellbutrin, Buspar, but Paxil and Xanax seems to work the best for me. But, I am at a point now where I just I have been on this medication so long that it is just not helping like it use to.

Lexapro - no

never had medication

I take Paxil for anxiety and Wellbutrin for depression. I feel that it has helped me in some ways but not at all for trichotillomania. If anything, it makes me feel apathy about it and I may be doing it more.

zoloft wasa little helpgul

YES, PAXIL AND NO IT DID NOT HELP AT ALL

To many to name – too drugged to care about antyhing but pulling my hair

I have taken both Paxil and Prozak and none of these two medications worked for me.

paxil, prozac, wasn't successful made it worse

Yes i have tried a few. There was one i was using which was a liquid substance that burnt my scalp while using it. This caused a bit of hair loss at the back of my scalp where my hair line is. When i noticed, i stopped using it. There is another treament i use when the condition starts to get bad, it is called HYDROCORTISONE CREAM B.P. 1% m/m. I find this clear up the symptoms in a week.

prozac, no help

Welbutrin and Zoloft for my depression and OCD. i THINK IT HELPED i DIN'T PULL VERY MUCH WHILE i WAS ON IT.

YES. PROZAC. NO SUCCESS, INFACT I BECAME EXTREMELY DEPRESSED.

Klonopin was originally prescribed for anxiety, but, I found in trying to titrate the dosages downward, the trichotillomania gets worse.

I was prescribed Prozac but only took 2 pills -- it caused me to lose control of my muscles and I fell down the stairs, bruising myself fairly severely.

sample 20 days of Paxil

NO...ANXIETY. THEY GAVE ME EFFEXOR. I TRIED IT FOR A MONTH AND I HATED THE SIDE EFFECTS. IT MADE ME "CRAZY".

zoloft, didnt help

Prozac. I never found successful.

serezone, risperadal; both were good, but at a large dose to actually be affective made me extremely tired; i'm finding a mix of the most recent drugs out there is more effective thatn just one. i'm on buspar, wellbutrin, lexapro which has been better than no drugs at all. Topamax is being added

Lexapro. I stopped taking it after a while, so I couldn't tell.

prozac, buspar. luvox. none are helpful

Paxil - no it did not help although it helped with the social anxiety that accompanied the trich

no. My GP said an antidepression drug called Citalopram might help. But absolutely not, its just makes me not care about pulling even more.

Prozac helps a little. Praxis did not. I don't remember the others.

No medicine

Anafranil when I wa s akid and it made me physcotic

Not specifically for trich. I am presently taking Wellbutrin and Klonopin for depression and anxiety, but clearly, it's not doing anything for my most recent episode of hair pulling.

adivan. At first it was successful because I was too tired at bedtime to pull.

I have taken Celexa for depression, it did not help with hair pulling

Zoloft. NO!! And I still have to take it!

no,I would like to think behavior modification works.

I have never taken med. I have only ever mentioned it to one doctor, but I never went back for any treatment.

yes. zoloft and some other kind a long time ago. did not help.

i am currently taking sertraline for depression

prozac, ritilan, zoloft, many others that i don't remember this was prescribed in ohio and none of them worked. the worst experience was the prozac, i was very violent on them and i tried to kill myself while on that medication.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A DOCTOR FOR THIS PROBLEM.I DIN'T REALISE THIS IS A PROBLEM UNTIL RECENTLY.

i currently take Prozac i have been taking it more than 5 yrs now. yes it does help control it, i take it for depression though

I have been put on a variety of anti-depressents. I told my doctor about my condition and he didn't understand. So none of them really worked. I am on Welbultron XL right now, and it seems to have the least amount of side effects, and calms down my anxeity the most.

I take prozac, Wellbutrin, and tranxene. - but not helpful for trichotillomania.

prozac only took for a short time during which time I found it ineffective

Right now, I'm on Wellbutrin, however, I haven't seen a difference. I am scheduled to see psychologist next month. I just recently spoke to my primary care doc about it. He's referred me for treatment.

Yes from local doctor that is Zortral

No help. I am currently on meds for depression. Prozac since 1994. Recently Wellbutrin was added.

prozac, maybe

I was prescribed an anti-depressant, Lexapro, but I didn't take it so that I could lie to the psychologist about how it was working; besides, I wanted something to control the urges more than I wanted an anti-depressant and I was too afraid to correct her.

I have not been prescribed anything specifically for trich, but I have been prescribed medications for depression, such as Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Prozac. The only medication which might have helped slightly was Prozac.

zoloft- yes. but wore off after months prozac- not really

luvox was given for ocd, i don't remember it being of much use.

Not for that specifically. Just meds. for my depression such as effexor, lamictal, depakote.

I took Prozak and Paxil. Neither of these helped me. Whenever the dose was raised to try and help me, I just ended up pulling more hair out.

Fluoxetine. Only on for short time as not keen on relying medication, however did reduce anxiety considerably.

Alprazolam, clonazepam, somewhat helpful. Remeron, somewhat helpful; SSRIs such as prozac not helpful

no i feel that i talked aboutit to my GP it would discredit me both as a hum being and as a professional i am a psychiatric nurse

I was prescribed zoloft (it helped to make me stable emotionally, which helped in stopping pulling) and Prozac (DID NOT WORK!!!! Made me pull more, and made me very zombie-like. suisidal thoughts while on this medication)

they have tried so many meds for me because i have depression and anxiety disorders...... prozac? but it didnt work!

They put me on Paxil at 15, Prozac at 16, and Zoloft at 17. None of them worked. They just put me to sleep.

no, my mother is indenial that I suffer.

Wellbutrin XL Not really, Zoloft not really

nothing has helped....prozac, paxil,effexor,buspar,effexor

No, but I took Prozac for depression and in this period the hair-pulling was still bad.

are you kidding? i would never tell a dr about this. they don't take females seriously as it is. i have so many "female" problems that have required surgery in the past. it took me 2 years to get the dr to believe there was something wrong with me then! if i told them about this i would be permanently written off as a "nervous wreck female" and no medical conditions would ever be taken seriously again.

anafranil-it helped for awhile, then symptoms returned.

Paxil no good mirtazapine do not know if it helped no change in pulling but prozac made it worse

I have not been prescribed medication for Trichotillomania before as no-one ever diagnosed me with it, but I was given a cream to spread on my eyes to stop me from pulling.

Strattera- Yes it helped mildy.

Lexapro, Zoloft no help

anafranil- no, paxil - no, effexor - no, wellbutrin - no, xanax - no.

prozac, nada, paxil, no help made me sleep (i suppose sleeping inhibits the ability to pull... then yeah i suppose it helped), zoloft, no help, wellbutrin, nice but not much help, effexor, nada...

Paxil- somewhat reduced anxiety. Mirtazapine ... more than somewhat reduced functionality.

PROZAC 60MG,SEROQUEL 200MG USED TO PULL EYE LASHES, BUT I'VE STOPPED.

No, I don't want to have to take medication for it

I was prescibed medication for depression, which as I have read has also been used to treat TTM. I have been on Prozac, Wellbutrin and Luvox and did not, on any of those medications, notice any difference whatsoever.

No. I have managed to hide this problem from everyone except my hair stylist for over 40 years.

Prozac. It does not help my trich but has helped tremendously in other aspects of my life.

no the doctor looked at me as if i was stupid

CELEXA,DIDNT HAVE MUCH SUSCESS WITH THAT ONE.NOW IN TAKING PROZAC AND HAVE BEEN FOR ABOUT 1 WK

No. I went to the doctor and was just told to stop doing it. That was all.

respiradil, dont take it, it was awful mad me go insane hallucinations ect...

Lexapro 40mg and Xanax 1mg

I have never been prescribed medicines for trichotillomania, but i am on a few other medications for allergies, depression, manic/depressive disorder, insomnia

MANY VARIOUS MEDICATIONS, NOTHING SPECIFICALLY HELPED

Yes. Paxil -DID NOT WORK and it's side effect was weight gain (47 lbs for me), not to mention HORRIBLE withdrawl. Wellbutrin - that did help at first. It really elevated my mood and my outlook, I lost some of the weight I gained with Paxil and didn't have the urge to pull as much. It was much more managable.

prozac, pazil and others to I can remember

Paxil... I didn't notice any change.

prozac, unsure at present if successful or not

Paxil, yes for a short time

Paxil, and Luvox and not neither one worked.

yes prozac. At first it helped a small amount then increased dosage and it was horrible.

Best drug combo so far is Zoloft and Wellbutrin. Great resulys.

a tar based shampoo - it helped alleviate itch but dried out my hair

celexa, anafrinal, zoloft. they all calmed me down a little so i would't stress as much but never helped me stop pulling

luvox - not successful

luvox, no help just zombied me

zoloft doesn't help my trichotillomania so much. Does help depression

Anafranil. Not successful.

PROZAC--SOMEWHAT SUCCESSFUL, BUT I HONESTLY BELIEVE WILLPOWER AND DETERMINATION HAVE BEEN THE GREATEST FACTOR. ALSO AS IS PROBABLY OBVIOUS, DECREASING STRESS IN LIFE HAS HELPED MORE THAN PROZAC.

Anafranil - Not Successful. Prozac - Not Successful - made pulling much worse.

All SSRI's. no success, only for short periods. Tried other kinds like anafranil. didn't work.

Paxil, Prozac...maybe it helps/helped, but I didn’t notice a change

ZOLOFT for OCDand anxiety but made me feel worse

I've been on a number of antidepressants since I finally sought therapy for depression. As of now, I take 30 mgs of Lexapro daily. I've only just now told my doctor that I pull hair, so I'm not really sure what will be done about it.

i took celexa – did not help

zoloft- not for trichotilloamia but for depression. It did significantly relieve urges - sometimes only pulled 10-20 hairs out a day.

Paxil and Paxil CR they are horrible meds and they made my trichotillomania worse then ever and I was dependent on them for two years unable to quit.

Prozac and it didn't help

Lexapro...in California. It is mildly helpful.

floxatine--no help.effexor-no help(not a good experience-triggered an adverse effect of on going mania)

zoloft...not really paxil...made me very groggy and tired now i am on a combination of prozac and seroquel...doesnt really help with the pulling but keeps me fairly even keeled and not too depressed

Medication did not work. (I was thinking all the while that it is in my mind, and if i don't help myself then the medicines won't either). i dont remember the name of the medicine.

no one knows I have this except my mom, who told me after she read an article in ann landers.

Prozac, paxil, celexa, effexor, lorazapam, xanax. no, none of them worked.

prozac..not really i felt disconnected however, i did dream remember my dreams vividly and with much clarity and i think that is what made me feel as if i was dreaming alot more

I used some homeopathic medication, but I have no idea what it was called. It helped for a while, but I stopped using it because the doctor started making it too expensive, and it was also progressively losing it's effectiveness.

just started going to a psyc. and am prescribed zoloft 150 mg. along with 20 mg. ritilin in am

I have been too ashamed to admit to this problem.

No. Nothing. I was on Welbutrin for a while, but that was pretty much like taking nothing. I had been diagnosed with Major Depression and Dysthymia. Prozac was wonderful, but wore off after about 1 1/2 years. Amitryptiline was used for a while, but again, to no avail. But, none of these was prescribed for trich - I was told there was no medication that could be used for trich and that it would probably never be gone. I haven't been under treatment for anything since 1994

it didnt help it just made me happier

no, nothing for tritchotillomania. I am prescribed valium 10mg and paxil 20mg for my nerves

Prozac-I do feel it helped initially, but not so much as time went on.

soloft, but it made my sick for weeks

prozac, didn't help though nor did mirtazipine

well no... they just gave me Regain to stimulate the hair gorwth i think... and now im going to have ingections taken...

No, I have only ever been told to get on with it as it is not life-threatening.

I have never told anyone that I do it. It's a secret from everyone I would be too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it. But I am fed up with it and I am now looking for help!

Ritalin and no did not help

I use to take celexa, not helpful. Now I take Lexapro,Neurton, and Seriquil, all not helpful!

Yes, I took Paxil for awhile, but eventually got off. I went to several therapists and couldn't find one I liked or that I thought would help me. I eventually ran out of pills and didn't get anymore because I wasn't seeing a therapist.

I take desipramine, lorazapam and serzone nothing has helped.

Aropax. I didn't find it helpful for trichotillomania, it made me feel sick. I've tried it several times over the last 7-8 years.

I never been put on medication. I never knew this was a real disorder neither did my parents. My parents thought it was a phase I went through.

took me years to pluck up the courage 2 tell my doctor when i did she told me 2 stop doing it felt like a total waste of time

prozac, mirtizipine - it was not successful

I have taken Paxil, Zolof, Celexa, and Luvox....They all haven't worked for me. But it depends on everyone indivually.

No. I have told the doctor about it when I went to see him about a stress issue once. He signed me off work and didn't ask anything about the Trichotillomania.

Paxil CR-No Celexa-Somewhat Lexapro-Somewhat

yes, when i was younger i lived in Adel, iowa. I was diagnosed around the age of 12 or 13. I recently moved to monterey, california I want to joing a support group out here so i can go to counseling and meet others with my disorder.

I have been too embarressed to consult my doctor. I am however on seroxat for other nervous problems.

Doc thought that Welbutrin might help depression plus ADD plus trich. I got physical reactions to it, so I'm on Paxil for depression and anxiety only.

Paxil, it didnt stop the pulling, but it made me less depressed

paxil, it wasnt at all helpful. mirtazipine made me sick.

zoloft an anti-depressant and ssri – in my view a sleeping tablet

When a friend heard about this on tv she told me about it and in desperation I went to my GP who got me signed up with a clinical psychologist. I had therapy for a year and it was during that time I was pull free. I was put on Prozac which I found very good. Unfortunately I am still having problems.

zyprexa- dont know- had bad withdrawls from other medicine and i had to stop everything

yes 40mg of Paxil a day. I did not find it useful.

prozac did not work i am now on zoloft and it is working but i still have a little earge to pull

Prozac and I think it was successful but I had behaviour therapy at the same time so not sure which caused the success.

right, just started on Strattera is working. pulling about 50% now.

no meds for trich but paxil for anxiety/depression after i left high school.

Prozac, Paxil, Imipramine, Lithium, Effexor, all seratonin-reuptake drugs, none were helpful and had awful side effects.

Prozac, cloimpramine, zoloft. None were successful.

Luvox, no i dont think it helped.

Zoloft. No, i dont believe it has helped me in any way.

mirtazapine ... hopeless ... zombified ... wanted to die.

nothing for it. ive never gotten help for it. i told two therapists about it and they didnt know wat it was. felt very freakish but was at my wits ends at these two seperate occassions the last time i told a therapist was because after 7 years i have finally succeeded at taking out ALL of my eyelashes (i had ALOT of lashes)
