A CD or MP3 player, a little free time and an ambient, calming relaxation recording, all recorded by an ex hair puller, who used it herself to stop hair pulling (and over seven years later is still pull free!!!). Proceeds from these recordings go to support Trichotillomania Support Online.

Results are optimized with daily playing of the recording for 30 consecutive days. It can still work if you fall asleep as it plays, so relax and let it work for you.

GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH TO HELP STOP HAIR PULLING ... FREE QUALIFIED WEEKLY MONITORING

The Trichotillomania Support Online Team have been researching and gathering evidence to safely support trichsters taking supplements of NAC (N -Acetylcysteine) for treating Trichotillomania.

Voluntary Psychologist for Trichotillomania Support Online, Pippa Wright Bsc (Hons) says "This is an exciting development, but there is still a long way to go and we hope some of you will help gather data now that the research can be revealed".

The affect of NAC is restorative in the area of the brain we have known for a while is affected by glutamate and trichotillomania.

NAC is a relatively harmless supplement as long as you are not pregnant or breast-feeding and don't have any heart, kidney or lung problems including asthma. If you have any concerns, please consult your doctor.

Qualified weekly monitoring is free for those trying the supplement and reporting their progress on the Trichotillomania Support Online forums.

Trichotillomania Support Online recommend that you do not expect any momentous improvement in urges before 10 weeks.

All the relevant trials have been undertaken with people who didn't know what they were trialling, and some volunteers were given placebos, while others were given the NAC supplement, which is available from all good health food outlets and is widely sold on the internet. The NAC group did show significant lessening in hair pulling.

However, we have always seen significant improvement when people have been asked to regularly report on their pulling symptoms, so we do need your help in further trials.

Trials have so far only lasted for three months but we suggest supplementing for a full year as it could take that long to redress any deficiencies within your body.

If you are trying NAC yourself please post on the Trichotillomania Support Online News forum after each week, about whether you notice an improvement and in return, TSO will ensure these messages are read and monitored by people qualified to support you.

What if you've tried and tried to stop pulling and always find yourself back there, with hair in your hands, feeling helpless and unhappy? What if you're just too exhausted to pick yourself up yet again? That's when you really need to move heaven and earth to get help; and ideally not from just one individual, but from a secretly strong community of caring people who give their all to help each other to achieve practical, pull free results.

There's always hope for hair and eyelashes. Other websites might imply that trichotillomania is incurable and trichsters will pull their hair or lashes for life. The truth is, some will : some won't. You could be the one that will ... and we can help.

Research into Trichotillomania Treatments

OCD compulsions are often the result of compulsive thoughts, such as "I must do this to prevent that"; by contrast, hair pulling is not preceded by such thoughts or cognitive problems. Trichotillomania symptoms most often begin in early adolescence (9 - 13), while OCD usually begins in late teens ( Himle et al., 1995). Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and exposure treatments are effective for OCD, but have not been shown to prevent pulling. For our own research, see Medication Section

Many trichsters become what we call trichSTARS (permanently pull free ex pullers). You could be one too. Here are the tools we recommend you use to achieve this.
