Trichotillomania Symptoms
The main symptom of hair pulling is of course hair pulling, which is said to be accompanied by anxiety before pulling and relief afterwards. This criteria has been drawn up in handbooks for professionals, while this site is maintained voluntarily by people with the disorder.
The experience of most of the members here at Trichotillomania Support is that there are many types of pulling. Two of the most usual types of pulling are caused by one of the following: anxiety, over-thinking or extreme tiredness accompanied by thoughts of outstanding tasks.
Another type of pulling occurs in something of a zone-out trance, during periods of comfort, relaxation and perhaps also boredom. Our experience doesn't concord with the textbook Trichotillomania definition that pulling is always accompanied by anxiety.
