Support for Male Hair Pullers

Trichotillomania is thought to affect around 1.5% of males, but we don't see enough men here! Help us make this a more male-friendly environment by posting your presence more on the forums. We have a specific forum to help beard pulling. Don't forget to also use CHAT for more support. If you'd like to send us your story we'll post it up to help other male pullers realise they are not alone.

Read these personal experiences of men with trich:

Here is an excellent poem submitted to us by Andrew; we think it speaks volumes.

Trichotillomania

So we meet again under damning light
If I’ve got this far then I’ve lost the fight
No way I could resist that mockimg smirk -
When these idle hands do the Devil’s work

How many times have we been here before?
These skeleton fingers pinching my skin
Stood here plucking my face, lashes or brow
With mild disgust at this compulsive sin

Ignoring the sting of nail in soft flesh
Desperatedly grabbing the hair at it’s root
Thinking back to times it was eyelashes
Habit from childhood, from when I was ‘cute’

From when I lay awake striken with fear
And worry, when they would grow back again
If at all, crying with panic severe
A child should never bear such a burden

But yet I did, at 4, 6, 8 and 10
As I do once more, but at seventeen
The age where boys should now become grown men
So this time I hide it, keep it unseen

6 or 7 hairs later, I lose patience and the shame comes
I grab the razer, and shave the rest off
Free from it, until it comes tomorrow
yet again
